  1. Thanks very much I will see what I can organise, might need an armed guard to accompany me lol! If I had a sunderland top, it would perhaps deter, but more likely enrage a geordie thief!
  2. OK! The idea of taking them anywhere makes me a bit paranoid - just incase they are worth a lot :/ Think I'd look well shifty trying not to look paranoid!!
  3. Yeah that could be a possibility, I'm in Newcastle, will depend when and on kids, husband etc. if I can get there
  4. Thanks I would doubt my Gran would be up for posting them though :/ It's tricky to think how/where I could go.
  5. Really? I wasn't sure the feathers on the eagle looked correct on its neck? Wish I could see one in the flesh to compare. They are back tucked up in the safe at my grans so I can't tell you I'm afraid! Lol! I remember seeing some kind of writing?
  6. Here's some more detailed pics, think I've concluded they are not real now from comparing them to photos online, I can notice differences! Was fun looking into it though
  7. I took some better pics today, will post later. Weighed them on kitchen scales and got 33g - doesn't go to decimal place so will have to take them somewhere I guess :/
  8. Hahaha! I guess a springer is worth at least 3 normal dogs ROFL! And your kitty sounds adorable?!! We have a three legged special needs cat, bites your nose if you're not careful!
  9. Oh what an offer - and on Valentines! The post is already taken, plus baggage of two young boys and 4 dogs is more than most men would take on; even for rare gold coins!
  10. OK I have pickled my poor Grans brain trying to get her to remember details!! They sold the hotel in 1948, there was an 'up front' price, and the gold was 'under the table'. Gold was bought by the seller which was sold in the bank and appeared at the back of the stock newsapapers, coins were individually bought and sold. The double eagles were in a bag with other coins, british sovereigns, swiss gold francs, louis and Napoleon gold somethings. She says she remembers her and her mother taking the lot to be banked, and those two coins were not banked for some reason - could it be they were fake? We shall find out!!! Is looking likely though, big poopy pants!!!
  11. Maybe next time you come and see Newcastle play in the toon you could come and look at them for us!
  12. Hmmm I see... I will have to quiz my Gran and see if she knows any more. Will try not to get my hopes up, it's not like she'd sell them anyway, but I might request she leave them to me and not my brother!!!
  13. OK! as I said they have been living in tissue paper, barely touched for years - except yesterday when I wanted to see them  !! I will try and weigh them before sending them anywhere - Mr argentumandcoins put the seed of doubt there as to whether they are real, wouldn't want to send a coin dealer fake coins, think they'd be a bit pissed off! Have emailed the place in London to see if they can help, would prefer to take them in myself than post them, they do have sentimental value too which is not covered by any insurance.
