A New 17th Century Token Acquistion
scottishmoney posted a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Fascinating little(15mm) token issued by William Warwick of Gloucester for his tavern in Gloucester. I love the raven image, very cute. This token was issued in 1650, and the Raven Tavern was known to still be thriving as late as 1675. -
I have noticed it, because I am a buyer from mainly overseas eBay sites and rarely only USA sites. It just comes down to the stuff I collect and want is on eBay.co.uk or ebay.es. All of my last several purchases have come from the UK site, the Spanish site, or the French site. I have recently found it easier to not even bother with the USA main eBay.com site because it is a waste of time.

The US government is not going to eliminate any gold to stimulate the economy. If anything they are more likely to seize gold again like they did in 1933 and make gold ownership illegal once more.

I know someone who posts over on Rec.collecting.coins that has a very very similar seat on his commode. My wife would kill me before she let me put that on our toilet.

Good website
scottishmoney replied to Hussulo's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
That is an awesome site, with particular attention to recording where the coins were located when found etc. I think the most curious thing for me to see is how many Scots coins seemed to have been found in Northern England, even in Yorkshire etc, proving that despite official edicts prohibiting their circulation they seemed to have been accepted in commerce, especially in the 17th century. -
Moved to Free for All, where we have our Ebay eccentricities section:)

Charles I Unite?
scottishmoney replied to Brianess's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Actually in the USA a well known British specialist is Allan Davisson, he briefly owned the gold Coenwulf penny. Right now I cannot find his website though, apparently it has been taken down - they are not big on the internet thing. -
I can smell it as a fake through the computer screen. This thing is cast, and poorly at that. Some bidiot got taken big time.

FOUR RARE date Scots Shillings (1959)
scottishmoney replied to NumisMattist's topic in Items For Sale
I have been a victim of CP's adverts Just wisht I could hae bought the Triumph -
Actually my Gram, yes, my Gram, owned an MG Convertible when I was a mere lad. She sold it whence I was 13 yrs old, oh how I wisht she had kept it another 3 yrs and tendered it to moi Some imported them here and dropped small block 283 V8's in them and made monsters of them.

Reminds me of the time that Chap in Germany of all places, tried to sell his Triumph back in England, and I would have taken it lovingly, but my Lassie said no, and my government has import restrictions on such fine specimens of British motor engineering.

I hae many Scots bobs from 1959 sitting in the bags with the rest of them. Even the '53 Pennies sit in bags with their brethren, they are just not that rare Only the '53 Bobbers get special places, 'cause there are only 40.000 of them not a million of them. BTW I hae a problem with Coin Yearbook unduly referring to 1707-2006 coins as "English coins" remember they are British now, not Cornish, Watfordian, Liverpudlian and unfortunately nae Scottish.

FOUR RARE date Scots Shillings (1959)

Hae ah got me knoggin under me kippers or do we have a minimum posts rule for adverts? -
Based solely on the image and the suggestion of a date in the lower portion of the reverse it has to be a Conder token from the mid 1790's. This appears as though it could possibly be from the Spence political series of tokens, in that condition with harsh cleansing it is worth only about 10p or so though.

Did you make a transition from Scottyland to the Channel Isles? -
Early 19th century counter or game piece, essentially a token for playing poker etc. Most likely ca. 1810-1825 or so.

not sure on this one either
scottishmoney replied to a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Has to be a evasion piece, with English legends and the bust of George II which was likely used much later than his reign, ie probably ca. 1780's or so. -

Coins struck on leather?
scottishmoney replied to Hussulo's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I have never heard of coins being struck on leather before, but have heard of US Civil War tokens being struck on leather, vulcanized rubber etc. This piece must have been for novelty purposes. -
Why would anyone take exception to the above statement? It is from the Bible, and most of us know of it from our dreary hours whilst languishing in the forlorn Sunday School gatherings. Funny how parents made most of us in that class go, but they got to stay home. One of those things you figure out when you are married and have kids, lets send the kiddies to Sunday school and we will pick them up when they are done

If Northern Ireland were excluded, I rather believe such an issue would be harmonious to most. Even those raballious Scots
