  12. Yes an endowment usually has no cash in value for ten years followed by an investment of 110% of funds for the next thirty
  13. sounds like it lasted fourty years rarther that the thirty you mentioned 1947-1988 = fourty years
  14. It must have been an endowment plan with a life insurance element to be worth so much , I am surprised it was just forgotten about , some never get claimed after so many years and end up enriching the insurance funds .
  15. I would presume payments into the plan stopped in the eighties because nobody though it worthwhile collecting the 1p a week in the insurance industy
  16. It's easy to reflect 50 years on if those pennies were put in a savings account say in the post office they might be worth around £2.40- £3.00 max , if withdrawn now. Interest was fairly high for the first twenty years or so (seventies and eighties) and gradually has decreased to nothing for the last five or so years. Interest rates are tipped to turn negative soon so the better alternative of gold silver art and antiques would be a better way to save

  22. A majority of Russians have approved amendments to Russia’s constitution allowing President Vladimir Putin to hold power until 2036, election officials said. However, the referendum was tarnished by widespread reports of pressure on voters and other irregularities. With most of the nation’s polls closed and 15% of precincts counted, 71% voted for the changes, according to officials. For the first time in Russia, polls were kept open for a week to bolster turnout amid the coronavirus pandemic — a provision that Kremlin critics denounced as an extra tool to manipulate the outcome. A massive propaganda campaign and the opposition’s failure to mount a coordinated challenge helped Mr Putin get the result he wanted, but the plebiscite could end up eroding his position because of the unconventional methods used to boost participation and the dubious legal basis for the balloting.
