    poor coin dealers

coppied and pasted from the independant Can you spot the mistakes? About 210,000 ‘Pagoda’ 50p coins are in circulation in the UK,(WRONG!) with each typically being sold for around £30-50 on eBay. (can anyone tell me how 210,000 coins can be in circulation but also be for sale on ebay at the same time) The coins can be identified by the image on the ‘tails’ side of the iconic Kew Gardens Pagoda. But with almost 950 million regular 50p coins, they are going to be difficult to spot. (why?) In 2008, the Royal Mint launched a series of 20p coins missing the year they were issued. (not launched at all it was a simple mint mistake) Heralded as the “Holy Grail of change collecting”, buyers are willing to pay up to £100 each for them. BULLSHIT The rarest £2 coin is considered to be the Northern Ireland 2002 Commonwealth Games version. Issued 14 years ago, 485,000 were minted, with each (WRONG not all 485, 000 are on ebay right now!) on sale for around £20 on eBay. Assuming most are still in circulation (Wrong, they have had 13 years or so to dissapear into collectors collections), that is one for every 132 people in the UK. - bet you can - OMG who would want to be an ignorant journalist?
  3. I notice that gum tree is now flooded with folks selling peter rabit 50p coins at between £200 and £20 mostly , they fetch a much more reasonable £1 or so each on ebay , so logic says that they will never sell at these prices or is it just that many people out there have an over optimistic side to their nature. Or maybe they think their is a sucker around every corner.

    1950 proof set toning issue

I actually have a "prooflike" example of a 1951 crown and it only cost me £5 even without the box (I never really wanted the box anyway) and yes it is Prooflike But I suspect most of these crowns in their boxes also were never looked after as well as the proof sets so over the years so only a true proof coin looks like the real mccoy. Unless someone invents a time machine so we can go back and inspect the originals back then

    1950 proof set toning issue

Your only regret neads to be that its not a 1951 as that has the crown in it and is a real stunner

    1950 proof set toning issue

Agreed - after all these years the tone hopefully adds to these sets in a possative way and becomes part of the set . Same cannot be said for the cased 70's sets in their plastic holders

    silver dipping

Acetone is easy to buy on ebay , I always get a 500 ml bottle it costs around £5 with post so is cheaper than the chemist . I personally would not use nail varnish remover , i think it has an adative in it , besides acetone
  13. copper123

    silver dipping

TRY ACETONE just a quick wipe then polish it off with a paper towel . That coin may never be a superstar but its better than many that are around and someone will want it

  20. I suspect he also might have a weird personality disorder as well giving himself a full five stars out of five is a bit of a givaway as well. After all everyone that comes across him regrets it I suspect histrionic personality disorder or even narsassistic personality disorder

  22. I put martin platt coin dealer into google and looked at his reviews on his yell account. He has five ,five star, reviews put on on a five week period , the middle of this summer , with no older ones. Could it not be he's writeing these reviews himself(?) I wonder summer is usually very quiet time for coin dealers.
  23. So I presume you lot don't think the leopard has changed his spots then ?
