Grading conder tokens, help ?
copper123 replied to Mark240590's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
The coin is EF yes the fact it is poorly struck is obvious to everyone in numismatic circles , I surpose its best not to mention it really, just state the grade with a picture if you come to sell it , there are many other issues with problems as well like early george V pennies a well struck one will fetch a premium and is a bonus to you but an a run of the mill one might not appeal to anyone. Would be nice if you could knock on the royal mints doors and ask them to restrike your coin as you aint happy with it . -
I think these coins if it was made public in the press and in the media would easy fetch £250 each , after all they are much much rarer than the mule 20p and ten times rarer than kew gardens 50ps which are actually quite common. All it needs is for someone to leak this news to the daily mail and every chav in the county will be seaching their pockets looking for these coins (with no success, by the way!)

Ones that got away
copper123 replied to Colin G.'s topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Mules are rare but I somehow think they are more common than most people thing , I suspect around 150 exist. Unlike that D over D farthing 1851 which really is rare at probably 30 in existance -

1806 farthing - variety?
copper123 replied to mrbadexample's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Interesting idea about the 1806 farthings being produced over the years and put into circulation later ie up to 1812 or so , this would not really be unusual or unacceptable to the public at the time who were probably more interested in needing the small change at the time . Peck wrote a lot on these times and I am sure he never knew everything as records were 170 years old by the time of his book Also remember the surply of copper was to say the least intermitant at this time with the navy having first call as they were protecting us from the french and Napolean -
Would anyone like a ex rare blue peter 50p 2009 only £200

That dot is very small - first time I have ever seen one of these good pic. This is one of those varieties that most farthing collectors dont bother with - not sure why -

London Coins June Auction

The fuller figure was all the rage as far as fasion was concerned back then . That britannia ain't no twiggy . George III was one of the few kings who never took mistresses as far as I know his wife was his only love- his eldest son never thought that way. -
1797 Cartwheels 1 & 2 pence Grades please
copper123 replied to fourmack's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Funny thing is I have noticed buyers picking out cartwheels from rumage boxes myself , even the ones in the poorest condition sell for £1 or so , I am not sure why these buyers want vast collections of low grade cartwheels , personally i would run a mile if someone wanted to show me his collection of low grade cartwheels . Take all sorts I surpose , surely they cannot be buying them as an investment . There again you often find that the thing nobody considers as an investment turns out to be the best investment. Certainly anything marketed as a "good investment" immediately raises my suspition that it will not be a good investment -

That ebay item looks like its been dug up as well - I suspect £4.20 is just a bit of a freak result - I would suspect two unknowlageable bidders bidding against each other -

The sad thing is the days of cheap postage are now over and the post office will not be there in the future offering what it did in the past "a cheap service to every person in the uk" Even Magaret Thatcher refused to stick the knife in with the post office The post office is now a commercial organisation just like any other offering a rapidly declining product to everyone at an ever increasing cost (remember the railways everyone - that is now run on a similar model)
