Stuff to Make Us Laugh
Sword replied to Madness's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
I vaguely remember watching (at least a part) of the film, Dear John, and the following conversation has somewhat stuck in my mind: John the teenager: All the way up to Wooster for another coin show. l'm just--No, l'm not doing that. His Father: You're going to one every weekend now. John: Oh, that's good. l love warm milk. That's nice. [sarcastically] . You spend all of our money on coins. Get a fricking fridge that works. Thankfully, none of us are so obsessive here. 🙂 -

Who is this dealer?
Sword replied to DaveG38's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
That's understandable. I guess some people don't want to give their full name and address because of security reasons. A PO Box address should be relatively safe though. -

His full name and address details are on his ebay page. Just click on "Business details" -
There is now a frightful number of "error" banknotes on sale with parts of the design missing (e.g. Queen's Head, wording, bits of designs etc etc) One problem with the new polymer banknote is that the ink can be removed relatively easily. E.g. this featured in the Sun after some one rubbed out the queen's head with a rubber. https://www.thesun.co.uk/money/4466648/watch-as-the-queens-head-is-erased-from-the-new-10-note-in-minutes-with-only-a-rubber/ Does this offer look similar to the note above? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Very-rare-5-note-printing-error-Queens-face-missing-Excellent-condition/302394991876?hash=item4668256504:g:~bIAAOSwHn1ZeIhb Some people are even selling "error" notes totally blank on one side. Some even come up with rather implausible stories of how they came by them. I rather suspect that someone must have found a solvent to dissolve ink off the notes.

A man told his wife that she is painting her eyebrows too high. She looks surprised. -
Peering into the darkness with R Ingram Coins lol
Sword replied to craigy's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
For me buying something for my hobby is a treat. Hence, I only want to buy from dealers able to provide good photos and are not likely to give me the stress and hassle of returning afterwards. (I just hate returning things - anything!) -

I imagine they will just refund the amount you asked for. It's not good business to lose a customer over £15.60 -

Sounds like some sort of dodgy attempt to claim accidental damage on your insurance. 🙂 -
The slab is in MS condition though. No scratches visible.

There is a photo with the coin on a scale. Weight is 18.49g and so it is definitely not on a heavy flan.

Did that really happen? 😀 Hardly fair to get annoyed when a joke backfires! -

It's one of those in-jokes that someone with A level Maths might find funny. Square root of -1 is given the symbol i. (If square root of -1 = i, then i2 = -1. When you square a positive number like +3, you get +9. When you square a negative number like -3, you also get a positive number 9. Hence, it appears to be impossible to have i2 = -1. Hence i is called an imaginary number.) 23 = 2x2x2 = 8 which sounds like ate. The symbol Sigma in Maths means the SUM of The pi symbol is well-known. Hence "I ate some pie" -

Just to put you out of your misery: One-one was a race horse. Two-two was one too. One-one won one race. Two-two won one too. -

Wouldn't it be great if it were a real story. There has never been an US Senator named Rudolf Schmidt though. -
This is the item in question: If it is up to me, I will put a "pressing engagement" into its diary.

I think they have made far too many pointless commemorates with the Queen on the observe. Eventually, you would associate the Queen's later portraits with these less than tasteful items. I rather like the earlier portraits myself.

Good images of famous characters require a lot of time and skill. Images of a car or a bow tie and tuxedo require much less effort. I am not impressed with most of the modern RM designs. The Brexit 50p was really bad.
