  1. I didn't have any of this when I received an empty envelope. Mind you there was an embossed coin beside the tear in the envelope. After much abuse from the seller ebay just returned my money.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

You could just paste it directly into the eBay home page, you don't have to sign in.It's a real pain for iPhone uses, as eBay will not let you take a link! It's possible to add links for just about every other webpage you come across, just not the eBay pages for some reason! Really sorry about that, Peck, it does rely on others kindly adding the link, which I myself always do for others if I'm on a PC and have viewed the eBay item in question! It's a nightmare, don't be cross with us poor smartphone users! I still want to join in! Then I'd have to have the steps : 3. type 'eBay.co.uk' into Google 4. click the eBay page in the list of Google links on page 1 You see, my bookmark, unsurprisingly, takes me to MY eBay where I have to sign in - if I didn't want to go to my eBay, I'd have to search for eBay in Google. Makes sense, right? Thanks Paulus. I don't a have a permanent tab open for eBay (it would just add to Safari's bloat, along with iPlayer, TV Guide, two other forums, Facebook - I try to keep the number of open tabs to the minimum possible, but I still have to quit Safari and relaunch sometimes when my RAM is nearly all used up.) I rarely go to eBay except for what you guys post in this forum, or the once-in-a-blue-moon that I buy some household item. Just add ebay as a favourite then launch and paste the id number into the search at the top. Simples.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

By the look of the 20p's he's selling he is being honest about not knowing anything about coins.

    I've Gone And Done It.

The photos work for me if I right click and choose the option to open in another window. I worked that out in the end, my mistake was trying to double click it.

    I've Gone And Done It.

Where to sell it is up for discussion. I'm hoping it's a £200 but £20-30 on ebay definitly would be a loss.
  7. Nothing wrong with a bit of wishful thinking. Surely you mean wistful thinking.

    I've Gone And Done It.

Same here, David. I found an F175 amongst thousands of circulation coins but never put it in my collection or on the website, being sure an EF/UNC example would appear shortly. That was several years ago and, although I don't have time to check every 1913 listed on eBay, I've never seen a decent one since! I've come to the conclusion that they're really quite rare.David Groom lists the four types in his book but doesn't discuss relative rarities. I wonder if he has a view on this? Personnally I think the F175 is harder to find in any grade than the F176. I picked up a nice F175 in the summer and was thinking of getting my worn one slabbed as there are currently none on CGS. What put me off is that the slabbing would likely cost more than the coin is worth. Here's my F175

London Coins used to offer the option of slabbing coins assigned to their auctions for £10 each. Not certain if they still give this special rate to sellers. I was not aware of this. THe coin was originally lot 153 in the Crocker Collection auction. Although I can still see the jpg I can't seem to open it. Perhaps Neil can help us. 10. I agree, if a price guide author doesn't even follow it's own price guide when they sell coins the price guide is about as useful as a chocolate teapot. I guess this is a question for Chris, do you take any notice of your price guide when to cost the coins you sell.
  11. The problem I have is when someone like Spinks produce a guide but take absolutly no notice of it when selling coins. This makes me feel very synical, does the Spinks book mean anything at all or is it just a revenue stream, well it is yes but do they really put any effort into it if they are not prepared to stand by it.
  12. i don't know any Shetlanders, but my Orcadian friends feel far more Scandinavian than Scottish It's my impression that the same can be said about the Shetlanders. I believe Shetland, Orkney and the Western Isles are talking about home rule should Scotland split from the UK. They obviously know which side their bread is buttered.
  13. This matt proof sold last year for £480 + juice. It is the variety with the bright edge and was talked about on the forum at the time. (The auction photo was poor with a lot of reflection and so there was little interest here then). Someone slabbed it after purchase. Personally, I am not too excited because of the contact marks and hairline that Paulus highlighted. I think the bright edge was just a red herring. At the time I looked at mine and the edge is brightish, definitely much brighter than the currency piece. Also the top surfaces of the lettering are matt. A good way to tell the two coins apart if you are not sure is to look at the edge.
  14. I don't recall when we started that but they were/are copper over steel. If you left one in a puddle for a length of time it would blow the copper cladding. Of cause some enterprising people would remove the cladding and try and sell them on ebay as a mistrike.
  15. A bit like the Irish punt, was worth about 90p but you only ever got 1:1 if you spent an English pound over there.
  16. That probably also accounts for the lack of rim dings on the right hand coin.
  17. Copper clad with the cladding missing?
  18. I hear that they will now not be able to keep using the Pound. I guess the Scots will now have to divy up that hoard they found recently.
  19. As I said earlier as English I'm easy either way. I do think though if there is a break it should be a complete break, non of this Salmon's want his cake and eat it. It should be a complete break, laws, finances, security the lot. In one way I would like to see the No win just to see Salmon fall on his face. To me he comes over far too smarmy for my liking, I guess it's the politician shining through.
  20. I'm not bothered either way, we don't need Scotland anymore, we've got Poland now. Need a big infrastructure project to boost the economy, refurbish Hadians Wall, that'll keep the Pols busy for a little while.
  21. I preferred Suzuki. I sent some of my mis-spent youth on a GT750.
  22. Keep the second and dip it problem solved, simples
  23. What like Heritage pushing the prices still higher.
  24. I got my VIP proof from RAS also. I think you really need the coin out of the slab to be completely sure. You can't feel the sharp edges through a slab. A few years ago I bought a 1937 crown slabbed as PR67 under the impression it was a VIP, the auction house suggested that it was at the time. To look at it is a wonderous thing, but out of the slab it's obviuos that it's not a VIP. I wish I could get it back into a slab but PCGS don't make it easy to do one offs.
  25. That coin is the 2013 Birth of Prince George proof 5 pound. That coin cost $130 at issue, plus $30-40 for submission/grading. While I still don't think it's worth the $329 asking price, it's a far cry from $450 for a coin that can be had for $30. Also, that "import fees" part of eBay is a complete farce. The shipping in the US is free from that seller, and eBay is likely making a killing on these types of coins when they add this "import charge" to them. This (among other reasons) is why I never sell on eBay outside the 50 US states. You are correct, i concede that one, i must get Glasses. On the Import tax subject, apparently the seller must oot into it, but i said before that ebay or someone is making Profit from this practise and really something should be done about it because they are asking for far more money in Import tax than the Import tax that would be due The other problem about it is that it's my opinion that many US sellers quite like it because it deters oversea bids.
