Hi, i'm still currently researching, well always will. But also trying to find the area that will take my fancy and interest the most. However, I was wondering if anyone could give me their opinion/feedback/grade on these coins? 50 Centimes, 1 Franc, 2 Francs. I'm posting a link as the picture taking on my phone is too big Three three

While at the airport this summer, My gf and my family were all looking through those veet reviews! had us all in tears reading some reviews. People kept looking at us like we were a bit special.

I like your attitude..spread it Usually, I'm a grumpy bugger come new year! This year however soooooo much to come! Moving into a house with my girlfriend, job promotion, aaaaand come May to become a dad! cant wait.
-

100% good recommendations on this book I can see! Very glad I made the purchase on it. Now I need to just be patient and wait for the book to arrive. Tend to be quite a book worm! lol.

Hi, I know this is an overused question as with any other hobby etc. But the oldies are always a good one, plus don't ask don't get. Anyway, in your opinions what in the British currency would be best as a starter range to get into? Would you say just start with ones that are in the range of between 40 years ago and now?

Personally I think it is 'Sellers beware' on eBay, tons of protection for buyers, and sellers dread negative feedback ... beware high grade coins without lots of hi-res pics, expensive historic coins without provenance, anything from China and certain other known replica exporting locations, and much more to be found on here. There are still bargains to be had for sure. I never thought of it that way. I think for the time being I'd rather stick with well known people away from eBay. And that is absolutely a good move too! We have many reputable dealers on here! It's not your average forum, there are contributors to the BNJ, authors of respected books, and probably a combined 1000 years + of experience amongst all members! We have R P Coins (Rob), Argentumandcoins (John), PennyCrownCoins (Derek [does that name ring any bells?]/Red Riley), HistoricCoinage (Clive), AboutFarthings (Colin) and, of course, Pre-Decimal (Chris)! I always hate creating a list, as I always forget someone! Most of the forum members here also buy AND sell on eBay too, perhaps we should have a copy of eBay user names for those who want them shared, and paste them up on occasions such as these? Anyway, move with caution, read this forum for a month, surf the above mentioned dealers, and don't rush! All the right questions are being asked here! I have been looking on the pre decimal shop part of the site and RP Coins quite a bit, just getting an idea of prices and what's around. Not planning on rushing, I just tend to read through things over and over -
Him, I was thinking for the time being, possibly around £50-£100 per month as a starter if I continue getting carried away.

Sorry for the slight bump on an oldish thread. But is ebay that bad of a place to buy from then? I take it that ebay isnt advisable to buy from unless youre very in the know? -
Yeah i wanted something that would help me gain a better understanding of coins and their grading. I echo all of that, are you specialising on collecting any particular coins? i am still looking and trying to understand more. but was hoping maybe starting with pennies?

Im starting to wonder if I'm at that stage at 26. Never wanted to go clubbing or even pay to go into the usual pubs just because its new years eve. Also the girlfriend wouldnt have done anything as shes 4-5 months preggers. -
oh wow pretty lucky then! glad to hear ive made a good purchase. looking forward to it arriving then

Hi, I'm new here and new to coins, my little brother just came into collecting coins, Which also got my interest.
-
its only sad because they would have been tampered with. the fact they have no value isnt the end of the world to me. we have to start somewhere thanks for looking at them too.
-
They aren't much + my camera is dead so quickly took some pictures on my sgs3. Sorry to be difficult, but as it's done on the phone, I can't really resize the images. so rather than display it as an image (Which would take up your whole screen per image. I'll link them as a link: Here are the pennies: 1897: http://darksmurf.com/coins/penny-back-1897.jpg http://darksmurf.com/coins/penny-front-1897.jpg 1899: http://darksmurf.com/coins/penny-back-1899.jpg http://darksmurf.com/coins/penny-front-1899.jpg 1900: http://darksmurf.com/coins/penny-back-1900.jpg http://darksmurf.com/coins/penny-front-1900.jpg Single farthings: http://darksmurf.com/coins/farthing1.jpg http://darksmurf.com/coins/farthing2.jpg http://darksmurf.com/coins/farthing3.jpg Grouped Farthings: http://darksmurf.com/coins/farthings1.jpg http://darksmurf.com/coins/farthings2.jpg Once again, excuse the pictures. Taking them and uploading all through the phone limits what you can do. I also have an 1855 Dix Centimes French coin (why do they have it so that the sides are upside down to eachother? I also have some more pennies, but figured I wouldn't take loads of pics just yet.

Thats perfect. I do have several coins. Ill post them on when i get in. have an hour and 20 mins to have a flick through the forum while on train home from work and cinema. Maybe if you get the chance you could give me your opinions on the coins when i finally get home.

Im not entirely sure where i want to start or dive into. it will probably be a little while for me to read everything and then decide. however. ive been considering just for a taster. the victorian pennies. or something in the french currency. any suggestions or reasons theyd be a bad idea?
