I once bought some coins from Roddy Richardson out of a fit of pique !...lol It was at York a few years back....David Seaman had a stall upstairs next to Roddy Richardson....I was on a mission to spend several £thousand in cash on my then collection at the time at the fair. There were several pieces on Dave Seaman's stall that I wanted to buy that came to about £3k in total...I asked if he could do something on the price he just said "No" and looked away from me..... I moved next door to Roddy's stall and spent twice as much very obviously so that David Seaman could hear and see...he probably did give a sh1t but I felt better for it....LOL !.

I'm working on the basis Nope....I'm working on the basis that I wont get more than one or two at those very low estimates...if I get more than two then I'm screwed !

Some of those reserves are very very conservative....I guess its to get people to bid...well, its got me bidding on a dozen or so...if I get one or two at the low reserve price I'll be overjoyed.....!
  7. Whilst interest rates remain so low , almost non-existant ...I think there will definitely be a strong investor element in coins....and all things collectible. Things like classic cars and watches also have shot up in price in recent times as people put money into anything except bank accounts. I also think that the lifting of restrictions on getting cash out of their pension funds will see people spending money on collectibles. Personally I have never believed in pension funds and have always bought 'stuff' over the years....and 'stuff' has done very well thank you... As I've mentioned before, the irony about banks is that they cant be trusted with money.
  8. Having looked at the Royal Mint website, it seems that the £110 refers to the proof Quarter Sovereign. The Half Sovereign is £190 and the Sovereign is £360. There are also bullion versions that are a bit cheaper, but not that much.[/quoteIt sure as hell didnt mention the fractionals in their advert in the papers...just said 2015 Sovereigns from £110.....
  9. Am I just get more stupid as I get older..? In the Mail today (yup I read the Mail) the Royal Mint are advertising their low mintage (7,500) limited edition 2015 Sovereigns from £110 ...? What does that weasely term mean "from £110" .... Do I buy all 7,500 then because they're 40% less than scrap at that price?.....what are they playing at here?
  10. I didnt think that "Proof" was actually a grade ?
  11. Can someone explain this to me? Buckscoins on eBay generally has some cracking coins all in the many £thousands (I would buy a few if imo they we're so overpriced...) but lovely stuff nonetheless. When you look at what he actually sells on eBay from his feedback, its generally and mainly under a £100 ( a few in the higher hundreds) but really nothing in the £thousands.... So is it just a showcase? Just curious.
  12. Ah...that would explain it .....thanks

    Choice ?

How on earth can anyone with at least one half decent eye, grade that coin as UNC.?? Its spent a long time in someone's trouser pocket given the wear....particularly on the reverse....
  14. So the Springer, sprung .....the clue's in the name....
  15. Like letting a junkie look after your medicine cabinet.... Like letting Dracula look after the blood bank
  16. Payments made by BACS or CHAPS are guaranteed cleared funds at the time by the bank...... Not according to the woman at my bank, when I enquired due to anxiety regarding a particular dispatch! That's not to say she was right, of course? The problem and the irony with banks, is that they cant be trusted with money..
  17. I dealt happilly with them for a while ....then got stiffed by them when they did a runner...as did so many others...to the tune of at least £1m by my reckoning and by what I found out over time......I made it a mission to find out who they were....I believe that I did but couldnt prove it for sure nor do anything about it as there was a complete lack of interest by the law and the fact that the main person was outside of the UK
  18. Nope, not illegal in the UK....it is in France...if you bounce a cheque in France they automatically block your bank account (yes, they do) and its treated as a criminal offense.....
  19. Payments made by BACS or CHAPS are guaranteed cleared funds at the time by the bank......
  20. Cheques are a very dangerous way of accepting payment for anything..they can be recalled for up to 6 months..as is Paypal who are a law unto themselves and operate oustide of the jurisdiction of UK law.....even Banker's drafts are not that safe...so many are stolen...you should always call the issuing bank to check the number or better still, if possible go with the person giving you the draft to your bank and pay it in with them. Leaving money in your paypal account is never a good idea either.....a dealer friend of mine sold £6000 of sovereigns and krugers a few years ago to InvestCoin2003 on eBay (you may remember they were based at Gatwick Airport with an address in Gibraltar...they build up a solid reputation over a couple of years with 100% feedback .).....then did a massive bunk with money and coins...we all had our suspicions as to whom was behind it .....anyway my friend left the money in his Paypal account as he was used to dealing regularly in large sums...several weeks later Paypal took the £6k back saying that the payment into his Paypal account had been obtained and made by fraudulent means....thats all they said. My friend then got into this Kafkaesque situation where Paypal wouldnt tell him any more, quoting the old "Data Protection Act" bollox and at that time Paypal were virtually impossible to communicate with...and our politically correct traffic wardens ...sorry, our Police Force had zero interest in it as well ....anyway he lost the £6k ..and the sovereigns. BACS or CHAPS is the safest way...its guaranted cleared funds directly into your account.
  21. Have you seen the rare Commonwealth shillings on eBay from the one seller?. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/nipper260968/m.html?item=201279342067&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562 Do they really command those sort of prices....it was pretty dark in the Mint in those days and most of the people there were illiterate so are those sort of errors that rare ..........dunno, just asking....
  22. Any more cryptic and they'd be in Welsh.....
  23. I have absolutely no idea what is going on here ...is it some sort of code for our agents in the field?....."the owls are not what they seem" and all that??
  24. That is worrying though ...that no mention is made of this very obvious edge knock....they cant have missed it...
  25. Yup...you're right Bernie....its actually quite a nice one all things considered....but I think they're wasting their time putting it on eBay these days...the penny collectors with that sort of money arent there on eBay I would suggest..and the ones that are would only want to pay a car boot price, as the seller is suggesting. Its at times like this that I wish I still had my penny collection.....
