    Elizabeth I Sixpence

Alarm set for fourteen days. Perhaps I'll have to pester you with less questions if I get more ready access to a Spink...!

    Henry III Halfpenny

That's an 'N'? Blimey! But thanks for helping pinpoint. RIONLV being henRI ON LVnd then? Excellent. Thank you! I like Henry III's Mick Jagger lips.
  3. Thanks for the ID. As Aimer minted for both Henry and Richard, I'm assuming it's the double-barred N that leads us to the Richard era moreso? And yes, Richard was a right sod (and not a very geographically British king) but he was a coin I never expected to be able to afford - similar connotations to a Richard III or Henry VIII or somesuch, i.e. Very Famous!

If anyone else has any elderly Spinks they'd like to get rid of, then I'd be a happy benefactor too
  5. I was thinking of class, yes. But I see your point about the quality of both photo and coin. I'll try and engage some lighting sources next time!
  6. I haven't come across this mint before. Or, if I have, I'm confused by the amount of damage to the coin! Anyone...?

    Edward...LIVI?

Thanks! Hadn't picked up on the crozier. Wonderful little detail.
  8. An Edward? Certainly an 'ONS HYB' character. But can't work out the mint at all. Anyone...?
  9. Thanks for the compliment on the reverse! Will try and get a better photo soon.

    Edward...LIVI?

On another board, it's been suggested that " the bifoliate side-fleurs on the crown make this very likely group 10 or later (after 1301). The appearance of the two smaller crown ornaments between the fleurs seems very much like group 11 to me, though (~1310-14, so Edward II)" Would anyone agree with this...?
  11. Very helpful. Thank you!
  12. Thanks, chap. Is it possible to be more specific, or does the quality of the coin prohibit that?
  13. Thank you! I'll do some more research into coins of that type and see if any look like they're of the same class/variant.
  14. One of the nicer ones from this collection. It's an Edward. He's a 'hyb' and he's from London. Not sure about anything else...

    A York Edward...

Thanks for the details, HC. I bought this job lot hoping to get hold of some Edward IIs among it. Sadly, that doesn't seem to have happened. Again!
  16. ...but again, can't get any further. EDWARDUS REX ?
  17. Taking these two responses together, are we assuming it's an Edward IV forgery, then...?

    Trouble with Edwards #1

Historic - yes, my mistake. It is a farthing. Thanks for the details... Peter - no. My little one is teething, and old coins make an adequate object for her to nibble on.
  19. Picked this halfpenny recently, but can't get much out of him other than that he's an Edward halfpenny from London. Anyone...?

    A York Edward...

Hmm. The reverse isn't showing. I'll try again...
  22. Likewise upset about the difficulties in finding affordable R3s. He's one of the few monarchs where I could provide a list of Good Things That He Did off the top of my head (the concept of bail, hugely increased representation of the North, and a basic form of 'legal aid' being the main ones). I believe the coins aren't particularly rare, but the prices fail to recognise this! And considering I'm trying to pull together a coin collection where the examples cost under £10, R3's going to be blank for a fair old while!

    Elizabeth I Sixpence

Wow. Such detail, and such timeliness of reply. Thank you very much! On a side note, I stuck my beak into a copy of Spink for the first time yesterday. Was somewhat disappointed to realise that it doesn't appear to tell you the years that the various different sub-types of coins were minted. Is there a better/more thorough work available that would do this...?
