1797 Fantasy (?) Penny
Paddy replied to Paddy's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Yes - that is the one. I wonder how my one got separated from it's set. Doesn't seem as if they were a huge success as an investment if the boxed set of 3 only made £48 including commission! Now all I need is someone who is missing one from their set... -
Surely people aren't buying these believing they are genuine? Quarter Farthings on Ebay

Royal Mint 2015 12-sided one pound trial piece.
Paddy replied to Martinminerva's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
OK - scans sent on to Kingsman. Anyone else want copies now I have them all to hand? -
Probably not "rich" but worth a few quid! There is no guide price for this sort of thing, particularly being so recent. Your best bet is to list it on Ebay with full description and lots of pictures and let others make their mind up as to it's value. I would start it at £10 to make it worth the effort - it may go for that or a lot more depending on the view the error collectors take on it.
-
Well it is NGC who have got it wrong as the same coin is on their website - complete with the 54 die number! Just for fun I have messaged NGC through their website - interesting to see if they respond.
-
Interesting. The NGC picture of the coin does not seem to show as much frosting effect as the Ebay listed picture. Also NGC records normal and Proof strikes for 1922, but no Proof-like restrikes. Don't know where that leaves this coin!
-
Even my scruffy example is the same.
-
Looks to me like a double strike rotated, if that is possible? The band in the wavy area just below the R of Brittannia looks like the rearward headband on Victoria's head?
-
Does anybody have any idea on what this large medal/coin is
Paddy replied to billy1744's topic in British Hammered
Yes - white metal coronation medallion for Queen Victoria. The metal is light and soft - similar to pewter but less prone to tarnish. Somewhere in my head I think it was called Mudi or mooti medal, but I cannot find that on google so I must have it wrong. I can't make out who it is by - not enough detail in the pictures. You might be able to make out a designer name under the bust? Sadly in that condition not worth anything - even in great condition they don't make much. -
Great - thanks for the clarification, I will now report.
-
It looks ugly and a brand new seller makes one very dubious, but the PCGS cert matches a similarly described coin (though no picture). What makes you certain it is fake? I am happy, as always, to report but I need to be sure in my own mind it is a fake before I stir up trouble for the seller.

One short of a Court Martial was "Tea with the Brigadier" in my time - no tea, no seat - you just stood there and had your fortune explained to you!
-
It seems to me that Ebay should implement a setting in the process for listing coins, probably alongside the "condition" box where, for single coin listings, the seller has to click either "Genuine" or "Copy" - not able to proceed until one or other has been selected. Then, if they have clicked genuine and it is not, they are in clear breach of trading standards. It takes away the opportunity for sellers to say nothing and allow buyers to assume it is genuine.
-
How about this one from the same seller: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Britannia-Standing-EDWARDVS-VII-Silver-One-Florin-Two-Shillings-Multiple-Years/332576065041?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D49920%26meid%3D2198b496af79486b9dc4e76b3d174946%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D332576084591%26itm%3D332576065041&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851 OK - the buy it now price at £6.50 should tell you it is a copy, but she should still explicitly say so.

Hi Pete - the trays arrived today - brilliant thanks! Just what I needed and expertly packed. Cheers,

1876H Farthing - large 6 or small?
Paddy posted a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I am busy cataloguing my farthings. This one in Freeman they refer to the large and small 6 versions - which is this please? I have nothing to compare against! -
1876H Farthing - large 6 or small?
Paddy replied to Paddy's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Thanks for the link - that helps! Ce doesn't seem to have a big enough 6 to me - it looks more like Cb? Let's see if anyone else has an input. P -
It has worked this time - must have been a caching problem as I have shut down and restarted in the meantime. Reported.
-
I have tried to report this item but the Ebay report page seems to be faulty - none of the drop boxes work. Anyone else having this problem, or should I take it personally?
-
Why don't you suggest all these alternatives to them? Then they will have enough ideas to do another 26 in 2019... and another in 2020... and another in 2021...
-
Total pictures have to be undr 500k, so if they are bigger you will need to resize them. Then just drag them into the section marked "Drag files here" under your post. (If you drag and they are too big, you will get an error message, but you then need to refresh before you try again or it will still tell you you are over.)
-
Yes - I am happy to join in reporting them, but I need to be confident they are fake for my own peace of mind. What are the tell-tales on these ones? Is it just because he has obscured the NGC references?
-
For sheer ineptitude this one surely takes the biscuit: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6-KING-GEORGEVI-BRASS-FARTHINGS-DATED-1937-1941-2-3-4-5/372226389083?hash=item56aa6bf45b:g:cnkAAOSwSPBaev3W Not only has he mis-identified threepences as farthings, but he his listed it in the halfpennies category!

VIP Proof Royal Mint reply
Paddy replied to craigy's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Spotted this in a local auction - looks to be the remnants of a 1953 boxed set with the penny removed - might be of interest to someone here? (Not for me!) https://www.easyliveauction.com/catalogue/lot/ba80400dd3bb7835a11467c1b73bc7c5/0af8d24542e81eb9357e7ef448a6646f/antiques-collectables-lot-382/ P
