  1. I'm looking at buying a 1902 Proof crown...and have found the following example... What do you guys think? Grade wise...and specifically about the 'shinier' high points...does it look like the coin may have been cleaned? And lastly what would you regard as a fair price? Thanks! Need your advice!
  2. Yes EE!!! Thanks guys, will steer clear of this one, the search continues!
  3. I'm looking at bidding on an 1821 Crown - the auction description is: Crown 1821 SECUNDO ESC 246 EF and lustrous with some contact marks, the portrait frosted Specifically the line 'the portrait frosted'...is this an artificial process that would decrease the value such as cleaning...or a desirable characteristic which is natural? Link to coin: http://www.londoncoins.co.uk/?searchlot=1883&searchtype=2&page=Catalogue Thanks in advance!
  4. Hi all, I have just bought these 2 coins for £215...Do you think I got a decent deal? I love the Trade Dollar and have been after one for a long time...what grade would you say they might be? Also there are a couple of small blemishes on the trade dollar near 'Georgious' are these nothing to worry about? just cosmetic? Thanks for your time Link is to ebay listing I won: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141351110127?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648
  5. Hi all, recently posted about a collection of 3 coins I have bought, they arrived today, and the brass one has quite a large black spot on the outer rim that I'm worrying about, and also quite a deep grove... I'm hoping it isn't vertigris? Could someone tell me if it's anything to be concerned about, or I should still be happy?! Also what are the black marks on the front? Thanks! Will add pics in a moment.
  6. Thanks both, and it shouldn't spread to other coins...although it has now been placed in isolation! But I had handled the 1804 dollar after etc!
  7. It's kind of course when I touch it, I'm hoping it's just spotting then? Will this take much value from the piece? Would you still keep it? I'm not too bothered by the groove, just the black spot (I think it's black...I'm quite colourblind) The dollar is lovely. And with my worry mind...any chance if it is the dreaded vertigris...it would spread to other coins such as the dollar!
  8. If you click past the other pics (Stamps!) you will get to the other coin pics...3 in total.
  9. https://imageshack.com/i/ey576ef4j Should work? Please any feedback would be great.
  10. Thanks for the informative replies people, always nice on this forum
  11. I was thinking the 1804 Dollar would be inbetween VF - EF, would like to hear your opinion also Right I'll calm down now, bit manic after buying that.
  12. Thanks, I've been looking for months for one, and I'm really pleased with it! So the blemishes on the back (Small black mark near Georgious) is okay?! Thanks again.
  13. Also won't let me edit, but I'm going to sell the 1822 Crown, and keep the Trade Dollar, and the 1747 coin weight...can't seem to find much info on the coin weight!?
  14. Hi all, I just bought my first Roman Coin today: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121373839864?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 I noticed it states 'cleaned' under the description...will this decrease value? Or in cases like Roman coins, can it sometimes help the value if they are cleaned? What do you think of the coin?
  15. Hi people, just wandered what you thought about potential grade and value?
  16. It seems I have nothing but trouble with these coins, hard ones to get with no faults, verdigris etc!
  17. I'm asking them to reverse the transaction as they haven't posted it yet.
  18. Thanks people, I thought it was a bit iffy from the outset as it was private bidding. What does chamfered relate to? As in someone has re added copper to the rim?
  19. Do you agree with previous poster that it looks like it has been cleaned? I thought on the obverse it was just the flash from the camera?
  20. How can you tell it's been cleaned, sorry I don't understand the other comment either?
  21. I don't agree with the EF grading by the seller, but I'm hoping I got a decent deal. There are some supersized images on the eBay link.
