Was it on ebay Richard? -

Hi Pete, I saw that one and was a little tempted but decided that, as I already have 2, I would give it a miss. You are right that it is a type that was seen more often 10 to 15 years ago than it is nowadays. I ought to do a count of the Bramah 26a's from my 5 year study period covering that period; hopefully will get round to it one day, but haven't done too much work on 1858's yet as just so many coins and loads of varieties!

Temperatures somewhat above the seasonal norm......
alfnail replied to 1949threepence's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
Weather is a bit of a shock to the system this week, especially after the amazing Summer we had! We've had cavity wall insulation installed, have a wood burning stove and solar panels, and a smart meter to guide us with fuel usage. We also had a 3 day break away this week (with heating just on a low setting), but still managed to clock up £80 for the last 7 days.......here in sunny Bournemouth. Anyone know where we went:- -
All very interesting..... but ebay's best offerings? 😁
-
I've seen about a dozen over the years, nearly all lower grader. Are you asking because I have one currently for sale on ebay?
-
Definitely not 8/6 Mike. 2nd 8 is over gap on 8/6, but over tooth on the Coopers coin. Also no flaw through C of VICTORIA. Reverse colons also completely different locations.

Superimposition is often a useful tool for explaining certain features, e.g. on this 1859 penny:- -

The same clashing also happens on Victorian coppers. This mis-lead many collectors into thinking that some pennies had a ribbon behind Victoria's neck. My small Predecimal icon demonstrates, but here is the full picture for reference. -

He'll probably get quicker at his 68 times table!!

Hi Cliff, hope all well with you. Over the years I have seen several YH pennies with similar weak dates. Here are some examples
-
Very sceptical that it's an E over F Richard. If they had said it was a P over old style Y then that's very possible...........joking!!
-
Here are the stats from my 5 years capture of YH penny ebay listings, from over a decade ago. I think if I were to now repeat the exercise (which I won't!) there will no longer be as many 1856's appearing. It seems that for Plain Tridents the small and large numeral types appear in similar numbers. I was a bit surprised when I did this exercise to find that approx. one third were OT's; I had expected fewer. It is still one of the few coins I seek in high grade for my collection, so it's annoying that there were examples like the one pictured below which got away from me!

P.S. Congratulations on your Dave Craddock purchase, it had gone by the time I contacted him later in the day!
-
The Cooper's coin has been on ebay at that price for a while Mike. In my opinion you did very well if you got a better one for only £155. The LRLD is still very difficult to find, even if not quite as rare as the small date variety.

Yesterday I discovered that the dimmable up-lighter which we have had in the corner of the lounge for donkeys years, and is used every evening whilst watching TV, was using a 300W bulb..... suggest worth checking your old bulbs folks! 💡🤔

1863 F47 - die No 4 under date. Did anybody here win this?
alfnail replied to 1949threepence's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I sold this one in December 2015 for £870. Don't recognize it on Richard's site; apologies for not notifying sooner. I remember that I bought this Die 4 on the same day that I found an 1861 F27 on ebay; think that was my best ever bargain day!!
