  1. Yes, superimposition, here are my originals for reference
  2. He'll probably get quicker at his 68 times table!!
  3. Hi Cliff, hope all well with you. Over the years I have seen several YH pennies with similar weak dates. Here are some examples
  4. Very sceptical that it's an E over F Richard. If they had said it was a P over old style Y then that's very possible...........joking!!
  5. Here are the stats from my 5 years capture of YH penny ebay listings, from over a decade ago. I think if I were to now repeat the exercise (which I won't!) there will no longer be as many 1856's appearing. It seems that for Plain Tridents the small and large numeral types appear in similar numbers. I was a bit surprised when I did this exercise to find that approx. one third were OT's; I had expected fewer. It is still one of the few coins I seek in high grade for my collection, so it's annoying that there were examples like the one pictured below which got away from me!
  6. P.S. Congratulations on your Dave Craddock purchase, it had gone by the time I contacted him later in the day!
  7. The Cooper's coin has been on ebay at that price for a while Mike. In my opinion you did very well if you got a better one for only £155. The LRLD is still very difficult to find, even if not quite as rare as the small date variety.
  8. Yesterday I discovered that the dimmable up-lighter which we have had in the corner of the lounge for donkeys years, and is used every evening whilst watching TV, was using a 300W bulb..... suggest worth checking your old bulbs folks! 💡🤔
  9. I sold this one in December 2015 for £870. Don't recognize it on Richard's site; apologies for not notifying sooner. I remember that I bought this Die 4 on the same day that I found an 1861 F27 on ebay; think that was my best ever bargain day!!
  10. Hi Gary, I haven't particularly studied the many variations in colon dot positions; in my experience the dot locations always vary a little bit from one die to the next. I have acquired a nice 1853 Peck 1503, because it is a documented type, and have also noticed that 1851's (all OT's of course) have DEF colons at close, interim and far positions. Below are examples of the close and interim on Gouby Style 2A (second 1 over 1), and Gouby Style 3 respectively.
  11. I agree that the second 5 on my coin is normal; it perhaps looks a bit fatter because it is tilted anti-clockwise. In the absence of a really good close-up picture, I think it's impossible to tell what's going on with that date on your coin. It could, for example, just be some grime on the inner curve, or some 'post-strike' damage (like the attached picture) making that part of the numeral look fatter than it was when struck.
  12. Any thoughts on this 1855PT re. 2nd 5 being slightly "fatter"?
  13. Hi Gary, this is an Ornamental Trident
  14. Interesting that you mentioned J. B. de Loynes. He was Chairman of The Gambia Currency Board after their Independence in 1965, and prior to the formation of The Central Bank of The Gambia in 1971. He changed his name to drop the 'de' later in life.
  15. Any chance of a better picture of this 'central panel' please Richard?
  16. Would anyone be interested in seeing some work I have done on Victorian Young Head Numeral 5 Fonts? If I get a few 'yes' replies I will put on the site, but I don't want to fill it up with large pictures for those who aren't interested. I can always send the details by PM........assuming she's still available...........ha ha!!
  17. Hi Pete, Just checked back through all my 1896 sales and never had an Ad. Had all the other 1896 date widths though, so guessing it is fairly rare, although I never search for that type nowadays. I do still look for the 1889 wide date and was quite jealous when I saw the one you found!!
  18. I see there's a nice rare commemorative version too!!!!
  19. I was poor when I was young.I worked hard all my life, and now I am old.
  20. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/144753106390 Bargain!
  21. When Uranus was in total eclipse by a full moon whilst in Libra.
  22. Thanks all, and 'yes' of course Richard please feel free. If you want them modified in any way plz email me.
