Why Don't People Collect Halfpennies ?
Garrett replied to sound's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I have a few halfpenny's here and there. Similar to Accumulator, my first favourite coin was a beautiful 1899 half-penny (that I still have) from when I was a lad. It is probably only VF (with eye appeal) but a magnificent specimen to a small boy accustomed to washers. cheers Garrett. -

Well done Peter, all profit from here on for you. They are handy especially for a dark room. Most of the dealers have lamps with adjustable necks but it's a bit of a pain to have to move around, especially when others are at the table too..... -
Interesting thread from coin community.

Absolutely Paulus ! 28 pounds of sugar. What the hell was he going to do with that ? Resell ? Make some home brew ? :/ -
Welcome Russ ! I know you will enjoy your time here. I like shillings too. cheers Garrett.

1825 farthing 5 in date error
Garrett replied to Coins4u's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I missed out on this one, http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1825-Great-Britain-George-III-Farthing-copper-coin-encased-in-resin-/271579937448?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEDWX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=%252BU5hBtf5wmMq69YHry8S6xkbb%252BI%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc Clear 5 over 5 overdate and possibly a high grade coin. But in resin ? A prior museum piece perhaps ? Would have been a nice curio. cheers Garrett. -
I am not an advanced collector but it looks a bit cleaned to me. Not an unattractive coin though, having said that.

Welcome CC ! cheers Garrett.

nice halfpenny Cathrine ! Jaggy, gorgeous 1/3rd farthing as well, but I've not been drawn to them yet as they weren't used in UK or Aus as far as I know ?? Looks pretty much "as struck" too but don't listen to me it's Friday arv here and you know what that means. time for my bottle. Have a good weekend all !! cheers Garrett. -
Sounds like a nice coin. If you could share a pic I would love to see it ! cheers Garrett.

IMHO I don't think it's quite VF, and it doesn't look entirely round.

Hi everyone Just a quick question, I've been reading about the shortage of silvers in the late 1700's and early 1800's leading up to the re-coinage in 1816. Bank tokens were issued, foreign coins were counter-stamped with George III image. If there was such a shortage, why is it so easy to buy 1787 shillings and sixpences these days in really good condition these days ? I would have thought they would have copped a hammering. Was there a hoard found sometime later ? Cheers Garrett.

Yes thanks Clive/Stuart. Was referring to the 'threepence'. Thanks for answering ! Not the coin I'd buy but would be thrilled to bits to pull it out of the ground ! cheers Garrett.
