DNW changing names.....?
secret santa replied to 1949threepence's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I was able to search on "penny" successfully. And I eventually found the coin that I'd saved to my cabinet as you describe above, saved within the particular auction. Not at all intuitive but it's there if stick at it. Still very slow, though, on my PC. -

I enjoy reading the different viewpoints and evidence but I don't enjoy personal attacks.

Come on guys. Remember this is a Coin Forum and don't get personal. Leave it to Rebecca Vardy and Colleen Rooney.

"never was a truer word spoken" referred to the "we'd better get used to it" rather than "What we've experienced the last week is not a freak event".
-
Never was a truer word spoken because, as sure as hell, the biggest culprits are going to do nothing about it. And, with our 1% emissions, we're just p*ssing in the wind.

LCA catalogue now online
secret santa replied to Sword's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
No, at least on Ebay you can see the progressive bidding but with LCA you're completely blind, submitting commission bids and hoping that a) you'll win and b) you won't have to pay your top bid. -
It's possible that they really paid over the odds to get their first example and then want to wait a while for inflation to raise prices before they sell ?

Will we ever become a cashless society?
secret santa replied to 1949threepence's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
Hooray - that's really cheered me up. -
Yes, I was surprised at that. I've never been all that fussed about the triple F, even though it's a very clear "variety". There do seem to have been plenty of examples over the years.

The Verene collection of British proofs
secret santa replied to 1949threepence's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Is it the copper proof (P1502) or bronzed copper proof (P1501) ? I don't think that I have ever seen a copper proof penny with full lustre - I assume that, when newly struck, they were lustrous ? -

New variety of Victorian Penny reverse D
secret santa posted a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Michael Gouby has recently sent me pictures of an 1860 F10 with an interesting variation on the reverse. There are 2 additional lines to the border of St Andrew's cross in the top left quadrant of Britannia's shield. They seem to be too accurately placed to be the result of a die clash and Michael has asked collectors to check their reverse D pennies for any further instances. I have checked all mine and can't find any. Michael (and I) will be interested to learn of any additional examples. -
1860 Penny Attribution Help - Die crack between 8 and 6 of date
secret santa replied to LotsofCoppers's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I'd agree and would also say that the presence of a die crack doesn't constitute a variety, i.e. a unique combination of obverse and reverse types, and so I wouldn't expect to see die cracks (resulting from heavy die usage) mentioned in any reference book. -

The sooner the UK gets to net zero, the sooner the worldwide problem will be fixed and we'll all get back to normal.😎
