  1. Yes, of course. Sorry, I was focussing on the reverse.
  2. Is that 8 over 6 Ian ? It's not too clear from the photo.
  3. The key question is "when we go cashless, is the interest in real coins going to fade away or get a boost through their rarity ?"
  4. The 1953 proof sets that I've seen described as "VIP" are all highly polished and contain the very rare mule (beaded/toothed) penny, so there's definitely something different about their production. http://www.londoncoins.co.uk/?page=Pastresults&searchterm=1953+VIP&searchtype=1
  5. For me, grade and/or rarity are the key attributes. Provenance adds interest but not value in my eyes.
  6. I presume that "other presentations" will include providing some to Westminster Mint for their sales ?
  7. Good thinking - I'm going to squirrel away some of those Nutkin 50ps.
  8. I've toyed with making the trip a number of times - was it worth it ? Did you visit the museum ? And is the "strike your own coin" a unique pressing or just another 2019 coin in a special folder ?
  9. Ah yes, the picture didn't come up for me yesterday. Thanks Paddy.
  10. The auction description doesn't mention which magazines they are - do you have detailed knowledge ?
  11. More to the point, how did the above posting make you feel ?
  12. Stop all this nonsense about hedges.....a good fence will soon sort out the gold.
  13. Thanks Mike - I wonder why they don't explain that in their documents ?????
  14. In the latest Royal Mint bulletin, they quote figures for "LEP" and MCM" for each coin but never explain what this means - it's obviously something to do with mintage but what exactly ?
  15. Eric It was previously sold by Spink in September 2015 as part of the Andy Scott collection (for £2108) See my rarest pennies site below. Richard
  16. I asked the vendor to confirm the die pairing and surprise, surprise, he cancelled the listing. At least it must have been an honest mistake.
  17. Die clash. Happens all the time.
  18. Mike, do you think I'm safe to add this one to the list ?
  19. and not even obverse 6 !
  20. The same seller has recently been listing a normal 1877 penny as a "narrow date" variety and responded similarly to my polite comment whilst persisting in describing it as such. Just symptomatic of society where criminal behaviour isn't policed or punished.
  21. Bryan Take a look at London Coins website. Their auction archive contains good quality photos of the coins they've sold and you'll find examples of just about everything. It might lead you to being attracted to a particular denomination, monarch, or whatever. Good luck with your collecting.
