    1913 penny - Freeman 175 & 176

10 years ago the F164A was thought to be much rarer than it's proved to be, as quite a few have come to market in that time.

    1913 penny - Freeman 175 & 176

I had trouble picking that one up - when I clicked on it, I couldn't save the image but when I clicked on it again I could so I've now picked it up. Thanks Mike. If GaryD and/or Davidrj would like me to attribute these coins to them, please let me know. I've just said "Held in a private collection" at the moment.

Unless I'm missing something, I think there's only one new specimen on this thread ?

I've now added F176 to my rarestpenny site to see what sort of population builds up. If anyone else has one please post or send me pictures.

    More Pennies

Also from his site (which does contain his stock): 1952, dies 3+C, BMC-; F.-; S.4117 (Unique), this coin , carbon spot by second N of PENNY and another behind head, otherwise brilliant, and the only known example, Ex. A H Baldwin 125th Centennary Auction, 13th October 1997 and Rasmussen List 9 (C109). Up until its appearance in the Baldwin sale the existence of this piece was not known to the collecting fraternity, with the exception of Baldwin's management. It now joins the ranks along with the other great rarities, the pennies of 1933, 1937 (Edward VIII) and the 1954.

It's been on sale for a year at £135K and not sold so I imagine something like £80K hammer plus commission might get it..........

Can we afford not to ? Put your money into something before Corbyn gets it !!
  12. If things were going so badly, why didn't David Davies speak up earlier ? Like 18 months or more ago ?
  13. Most of them lured away from my Saints F.C. with umpteen pieces of silver. I hate them as much as I hate Man U. But enough of this - back to Brexit.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/extremely-rare-1915-one-penny/183726981238?hash=item2ac6fb4076:g:F0MAAOSwJiBcWctO Where do these cretins come from ?
  15. The country had a majority in favour of leave. Once parliament, containing a majority of MPs who want to remain (or want to form the next government), voted to have the final say, it was only ever going to end one way - Remain. What's in doubt are the exact hoops everyone has to jump through until the decision to remain emerges. There is clearly no point in ever again holding a national referendum.
  16. This is what an Edward matt proof penny looks like...
  17. Although the mint is producing "too many" novelty coins, the benefit may well be that more people are "bitten" by the collection bug before we eventually hit the cashless society which will be the final nail in the coffin of collecting for millennials. Unless you count bitcoins........
  18. I agree with Bernie that it's probably a misplaced 8 (from a single digit punch) - it looks much the same as the 1880 over 8 below.
  19. Absolutely - DNW, Heritage, Stacks Bowers etc have top quality pictures and I'm sure it reflects in prices realised. Seems obvious to me, and you. LCA used to have pretty good photos so it's surprising to see the deterioration.
  20. Looks so much better than the LCA photos - they seem to be going the way of Spink !
  21. I've added Bernie's pic to my varieties website.
