    Stuff to Make Us Laugh

Another tricky crossword clue: Pertaining only to the female gender - 4 letters ending in UNT Answer, of course is AUNT
  2. But it could conceivably be confusing if something is described as, say, Freeman 28 which, based on the earlier logic, could mean a particular 1861 penny or Lot 28 from his Christie's sale. But, as you say, anyone interested in this information will probably know what the difference is.
  3. They've done similar things before in terms of creating additional Freeman numbers, I believe. They also regularly quote Bamford numbers which are actually just the lot numbers from his sale rather than definitive variety identifiers, although Rob has said that this approach (using lot nos from major sales) has been used several times in the past.

I once mailed her to politely correct a listing and got the reply "Who do you think you are - Michael Freeman ?" Charming !!!!!!!!

And take a look at the Victoria Unofficial Patterns section of my varieties website for more information.
  10. Nice example with just a trace of colon after R and possibly after G ?
  11. Physicians were unable to reach a consensus: Should Brexit take place? > The Allergists were in favour of scratching it, but the Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves. > The Gastroenterologists had sort of a gut feeling about it, but the Neurologists thought the Brexiters had a lot of nerve. Meanwhile, Obstetricians felt certain everyone was labouring under a misconception, while the Ophthalmologists considered the idea shortsighted. Pathologists yelled, "Over my dead body!" while the Pediatricians said, "Oh, grow up!" > The Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness, while the Radiologists could see right through it. Surgeons decided to wash their hands of the whole thing and the Internists claimed it would indeed be a bitter pill to swallow. > The Plastic Surgeons opined that May's proposal would "put a whole new face on the matter." The Podiatrists thought it was a step forward, but the Urologists were pissed off at the whole idea. Anesthesiologists thought it was all a gas, and those lofty Cardiologists didn't have the heart to say no. > In the end, the Proctologists won out, leaving the entire decision up to the assholes in Parliament.
  12. It's good that we can still find things to discuss - I love it !

    1860 penny D or E or DE?

Gouby E/Freeman 3: if in doubt, count the teeth - 138 of the little beauties.
  14. I'm now confused: If you Google A H Baldwin and click on Website you go to the Baldwin's website (https://www.baldwin.co.uk/); if you hover the cursor over the AUCTIONS tab it shows "Auction Catalogue Archive" but if you click on this AUCTIONS tab, it brings up a new window with https://bsjauctions.com/upcoming-auctions. Bid Live page and if you then click on BID LIVE it brings up the BID LIVE page (https://bsjauctions.com/bid-live) and if you click on CLICK ON HERE TO CONTINUE, it brings up https://bsjauctions.auctionmobility.com/. Very difficult to see how they're not all connected !
  15. Just taken a look at the PDF for Auction 28. The photos of lots 115 and 116 have been switched and lots 139 and 141-148 are described as "British and Wold Coins" in case you're interested............

    Trials, Proofs and Anomolies

Peck's images are still relatively small, low resolution and also black and white although he has a greater number of partial enlargements. You may be better looking through auction sites' archives for photos of actual specimens that have been sold. That's one of the reasons that I created my varieties website, to provide better images than the various reference books.
  17. No, the 2 sites I'm talking about are both BSJ sites - bsjauctions.com and bsjauctions.auctionmobility.com But, like Mike I'm getting fed up with this so this is MY last word, too.
  18. I give up. You're right. I'm wrong. It makes absolute sense to go to one site to see past auctions and then have to go to another completely different site to see current auction lots and bid.
  19. Sorry Nick, completely unintentional - I just highlighted Mike's quote but it was within your quote so you got the blame ! Have to be careful with this feature, readers. Sorry again. And I don't want a 2nd referendum either.
  20. The decisions have to be binary or else 34% of voters could decide for the remaining 66% - how would this go down ? I think you know ! So, it has to be a series of binary decisions and everyone has to vote on each of them 1 Leave or Remain 2 If leave, Deal or No Deal 3 If Deal, Mrs May's deal or WTO Thus the issue would be decided at stage 1 if Remain gets >50% but goes to stage 2 if Leave gets >50% At stage 2, with everyone voting, the issue is decided if No Deal wins, else goes to stage 3 At stage 3, with everyone voting, either accept Mrs May's deal or WTO terms. If everyone follows the rules, you will emerge with something that >50% of the voters voted for. Too complicated ?
  21. It's not the registration process we're complaining about. It's all the rest !!!!
  22. OK, so no plans to improve the whole process, then ?
  23. Yup, Baldwins are doing themselves no favours, especially as we raised many of these issues a year ago and nothing has changed.
  24. The address https://bsjauctions.com/ (which I'd expect to take me to their auction site) takes you to a website with 6 major options and no log-in capability. The "Auctions" tab only provides a link to their archive, and NOT to their current auctions. If you click on "Bid Live", takes you to a page which says : Please click the button below to be redirected to our live bidding platform with Auction Mobility. Please note this will require a new registration with Auction Mobility, if you have not done so already. Clicking the button takes you to the https://bsjauctions.auctionmobility.com/ site, as 1887jubilee suggests above. This is a site that my own PC really has trouble loading (probably due to my lousy broadband service) You can then register or log onto the site and the "Auctions" tab will take you to forthcoming auctions or past auctions where you can access the lots via the "xxx lots" button. I believe that you also have to register to bid for every auction which is time-consuming, involving them emailing you back to confirm acceptance for bidding. As I said above, all very non-intuitive, unbelievably long-winded and in dire need of SORTING OUT.
