    Mintage figures

I'm like surprised that like nobody's like mentioned the like worst one of all.

So, how about the totally incorrect use of the word "literally" ? - I literally explode with rage when I hear this thrown into every other sentence.

    Do you mean RAOTFIS ?
  5. Interesting, that, as I use autofocus on my Canon digital SLR with macro lens (plus flash) and sometimes the pictures are as sharp as needles and sometimes not !
  6. And your background blanket/jumper/whatever is a completely different colour too. Did you have a different setting on the camera ?

    DNW 14th Nov 2018

DNW seem to be the premier auction outfit nowadays. Their grading is accurate as people have said, their website works wonderfully well, their photographs are generally top quality and both commission and live bidding work perfectly.

That bloke "Wood" bought a load more coins again.....................
  9. F38 was never up there but, after Jerry's prompting and consulting my records, I'm in the process of adding it. Please let me know of any examples that I haven't listed.

    More Pennies

    I'm not sure I'm convinced it's a 4 underneath but I haven't got a better suggestion !
  11. Yes, decent 1915 examples very very hard to find.

    LCA December

I'm also unconvinced of the variety. The photo in Michael's book is of a worn coin although I know Michael would not record it if he didn't believe it (or hadn't seen it in hand). Hopefully a BU example will appear sometime, unrecognised by the vendor !

Interestingly, Gouby records R over B on an obverse F (Freeman 4) + rev g, but LCA describes their example as 5 + D.

    The McGowan Collection

Fedex are smart - they mail you an invoice about a week after delivery, just when you've thrown the packaging away !!!!

What's that and where would I find it ?

    The McGowan Collection

I've just received another invoice from Fedex charging 20% VAT for a numismatic item from Stacks Bowers - I've written to them saying it should be 5% but I'm not holding my breath. Any advice chaps ?

    Doesn't look right to me.
  18. Ditto !!!! Must be a tax avoidance scheme........
  19. Exceptional obverse, Mike, with a bit of crow's foot thrown in and very nice reverse. And a really pleasing colour. Provenance ?

    Roman silver id

I think that Jerry is suggesting you Google "Thelwell".........
  21. Most of you will know that bidding online through the-saleroom.com incurs an additional cost of 3% of the hammer price. I've always felt this a bit of a rip-off but now I see that the surcharge is going up to 4.95% on 1st November. Beware, you unsuspecting bidders !

    Pennies High grade.

And as I said above, the Home pages of each website explain the rarity codes used. The rare penny site uses Freeman's rarity codes and the pennyvarieties site uses Peck and Gouby codes. The fact that Gouby and Freeman both use a prefix of "R" can be confusing but the two sites are independent and do not cross refer or compare.

    Pennies High grade.

Thanks for the advice. Read the Home pages and you'll see the references to Freeman's and Gouby's rarity codes.
  24. Got a nice 1862 F39A last week. Fantastic condition but cleaned - pity but it was cheap.
