OK, so no plans to improve the whole process, then ? -

Yup, Baldwins are doing themselves no favours, especially as we raised many of these issues a year ago and nothing has changed. -

BSJ Auction - Is Anybody Else Having Difficulty With Approval to Bid?

The address https://bsjauctions.com/ (which I'd expect to take me to their auction site) takes you to a website with 6 major options and no log-in capability. The "Auctions" tab only provides a link to their archive, and NOT to their current auctions. If you click on "Bid Live", takes you to a page which says : Please click the button below to be redirected to our live bidding platform with Auction Mobility. Please note this will require a new registration with Auction Mobility, if you have not done so already. Clicking the button takes you to the https://bsjauctions.auctionmobility.com/ site, as 1887jubilee suggests above. This is a site that my own PC really has trouble loading (probably due to my lousy broadband service) You can then register or log onto the site and the "Auctions" tab will take you to forthcoming auctions or past auctions where you can access the lots via the "xxx lots" button. I believe that you also have to register to bid for every auction which is time-consuming, involving them emailing you back to confirm acceptance for bidding. As I said above, all very non-intuitive, unbelievably long-winded and in dire need of SORTING OUT. -

BSJ auctions need to sort their website and process out - it's tortuous and completely non-intuitive logging in, getting to the lots etc etc. -
Excerpt from Freeman 1970 attached. He recorded it as F75

Interesting that Peck doesn't include an obverse type for this coin - a typo ?

Penny Acquisition of the week

Interesting - the 7 on both Blake's coin and Terry's coin is noticeably higher than on the first few examples noted. I'm not sure whether to remove Blake's example from my website or include it with Terry's example as separate "types" ? Actually, looking at the "sloping" 7 on Blake's/Terry's coins, it's possible that the 7 over 7 is an attempt to repair the sloping 7 ? -

Definitely - uncharismatic die-pairing but very hard to find in decent grade. -

Not to my knowledge. As I (and Michael Gouby) say, it's only found on proofs F2-5. -
Trials, Proofs and Anomolies
secret santa replied to hazelman's topic in Confirmed unlisted Varieties.
A different kind of Trial is the trial 12-sided £1 coin that was produced for coin-in-the-slot machine manufacturers to design changes in preparation for the new £1 coin. These trial £1 coins (clearly marked Trial) fetch about £100 at auction. -

Gary, if it's OK with you I'll add this coin to my rarest penny site as it's only the 6th specimen I've seen. Do you remember the exact date of purchase ? -
Advice on coin auctioneers
secret santa replied to MickM's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I can't speak as a seller but as a buyer, I think that DNW are the current leaders - their website and pictures are excellent, they conduct business on the internet and so command a larger audience, and their delivery service is as good as any. I'd imagine they pay their vendors promptly but have no experience. They answer emails promptly and responsively. -
Does anyone else think like me that those morons who flew the drones over Gatwick should be locked away for life ?

Take a look at my Penny Varieties site below for decent pictures of the various obverse and reverse designs. And, as John says, colon positions can vary enormously.

Presumably you take the 2 photos within seconds of each other in similar conditions so the colour variation is puzzling. -

A website is such a great resource to work with; I can update it at will and make the simplest or most complex of changes without having to print out pages etc. -

This 8 over 6 variety is one of the harder ones to spot - there is only a little of the 6 visible usually. The wide 2 is also a clue as all the examples I've seen are from this die with the wide 2. -

Thanks Terry, I've added it to the rare penny site as example 15. -
Should this be in "More Pennies" rather than "Free for All" ???
-
It looks to me like a Gouby G with central fishtail.

"unreserched" is the term he actually uses - from a new verb meaning "I'm trying it on". He's one of the luckiest variety spotters that I've ever come across - I wonder how many times he's won the lottery ?
