RIP GREG LAKE
secret santa replied to copper123's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
Wow - I hadn't heard about that. ELP were a bit far out for me but "I believe in Father Christmas" will always be my favourite Christmas song. -
Croydon Coin Auctions - general query
secret santa replied to 1949threepence's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
They only accept postal or room bids (possibly telephone bids too). Sadly their website is awful. Very slow and poorly organised. They could learn a lot from London Coins' site. I've had a look and they appear to be only showing one side of coins as you say. -

Good job we gave English to someone else because it's being murdered over here.................. -
I've been sat at my PC all day upgrading from 8.1 to 10 and it's finally finished after about 5 hours ! If anyone has got some important tips on using W10, please let me know. I'm sure I'll be finding all sorts of problems in the coming days.

1860 Bronzed Proof Penny - Photos
secret santa replied to cathrine's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
And the rest! Don't forget that 2 specimens sold this year for £2232 & £1860 inc commission so it may not fetch much more - we'll see. -

Don't get hung up on the note. It's interesting but the real value is in the rarity of the coin. Should fetch £2500 plus. -
Penny Acquisition of the week
secret santa replied to Paulus's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Nice coin. Not the rarest, as you say, but much harder than most to get in good condition, and virtually impossible to find in BU. -
I haven't really kept records on this variety other than unc specimens of which the Bamford/Alderley, Workman and mine (ex-Colin Adams) are the only ones I've seen.
-
Don't worry, Pete, it's well accepted as a rare variety now.
-
Well, he did catalogue the 1897 dot as F147 (and probably regrets it)

There's a fortune to be made by adding random "dots" to pennies......................

Can anyone see the 8 over a 6 in lot 1197 ? I can't. -
I'm trying to upload an image of only a few Kb but get the message that the maximum is 500Kb - is there a problem ?
-
Just tried again and it worked with the same image as before - very strange !

This beauty went for only £825-00 in Jun 2014 ! -
2* is a newly discovered obverse - unrecorded by Freeman or Gouby - a variant of obverse 2 (Gouby D) with 2 extra border teeth such that the A of VICTORIA points directly to a tooth rather than to a gap between teeth as on normal obverse 2 (Gouby D). See my varieties website for more details.

secret santa replied to cathrine's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Cathrine, I don't know what you paid for the coin but I'd be inclined to keep it. These coins very rarely survive in pristine condition unless they've been protected from day one and your own coin photos show exactly how most of these early proofs appear in hand. I just wish I had the knowledge to photograph my coins in the way that PCGS did - my collection would look absolutely stunning ! -

No-one yet has answered my question as to how PGCS managed to produce such fantastic photos....... -

Really nice coin and that's how photos of my own F4 come out - wonder how PCGS make the coin look so perfect ???????? -
The signature function seems to have disappeared ? I have added my website URL to my personal settings but it doesn't appear whenever I add a post and the old way of adding it to my signature isn't there unless I've missed it.
