Thanks for the info,I understand the difficulties in grading hammereds, but do appreciate your views. This is one that I plucked out of a muddy field,it's the third martlet shilling I've found,so I was fairly sure it was a common one, although this one is by far the best condition, and is nice & flat,it does look nice in the hand, esp.the reverse.

Hi folks,I found this rolled up James I Halfgroat, this obviously has been done on purpose & I've been informed that it was done so that coins could be strung up & perhaps worn in a more discreet area, away from any would be thieves. This seems a plausible reason, but,I've seen very few found,& this is the only one I've got, perhaps a lot of peeps straighten them as soon as they get home, not something I'm about to do btw. So has anyone any other theories ? Would be pleased to hear them. .
-
Surely it have to be a charlie shilling
-
Did you find that big charlie tom ? Or purchase,I'm just being nosy. Good job on unrolling btw.
-
Thanks tom,yes I've had quite a few S - shaped love tokens, mainly Will 3,fair point about piercing,I guess when the coins were new the silver was pliable & easy to roll, maybe less bother than piercing.I don't see this as a love token though.

Hi,can anyone confirm the mint & moneyer on this Penny ,I think it's LIOFPINE ON GIP,not too sure these pics are gonna be good enough,or there just isn't enough detail to confirm. I'm considering putting this one into auction, any ideas on what I could expect it to fetch.

I haven't got a clue on values mate, although I suspect the sabinus isn't worth much, the Caesar is far more desirable Can't advise on selling either as I haven't done much of it,I would of thought some on here can advise you.
-
Yes,your reverse is upside down,AR is silver. First one is Roman Republican, L. Titurius L.f. Sabinus, AR Denarius, 89 BC, Rome SABIN | A P V Bare head of Tatius right, King of the Sabines, palm in right field, banker's mark above (No legend) Two Roman soldiers each carrying a woman in his arms L TITVRI in exergue Tituria 3; Crawford 344/1c; Sydenham 698b
-
Second one is - Julius Caesar. 49-48 BC. AR Denarius. CAESAR in exergue, elephant right, trampling on serpent / Simpulum, sprinkler, axe and priest's hat. Cr443/1; Syd 1006; BMCRR (Gaul) 27.

Here's the legend & description Constantius II AE3. CONSTANT-IVS PF AVG, pearl diademed, draped, cuirassed bust right / FEL TEMP-REPARATIO, Emperor in military dress standing on galley moving left, holding phoenix on globe and labarum. Victory sitting at the stern, steering the ship,

Think it might be Constantinus II,AE3, This is the closest I've found.

Hi all,I've got this Ed.I farthing, with the reverse spelling LONDRIENSIS,known from just one die,in spinks it just says rarely,& gives no value,I've had a good look around and can't find another one, just wondered if anyone here has seen one, sorry about crap pics,I struggle to photo these little tiddlers,it does look a lot nicer in the hand.
-
Hi Colin, yes it was a detecting find,it's recorded on UKDFD ref No 20711,it's been in my collection for a few yrs now,i don't really know what kind of value it has tbh,but I am considering letting some of my coins go ( work has been slow ) to raise some cash and this could be one for sale..
