Thanks, very useful and cleared up any confusion :-) In terms of the Half-Sovereign description rather than Half-Crown, I couldn't find an exact match on any of the descriptions on the auction sites, or expert sites describing the coin itself. E.g. Garter around the coat of arms. I'm a novice .... although more enlightened now thank you :-) Cheers, Stu
  2. Hello Numismatics, I have what I think is a gold half sovereign from 1819, it belongs to a collection of coins that belonged to my grandfather. With the provided photos can anyone tell me if this is real? It would seem from research that this must be a fake, as none were reportedly made in that year (half sovereigns). Anyway, I'm a complete novice, so would appreciate any help, opinions etc. Many thanks,
