It is a nice coin, for a collector of errors like myself. I have an early stage capped die strike, or more commonly, a brockage, but not a late stage.. yet.
-
How do you want it? Because if the topic gets closed to comments no-one can post new fakes that they find. Or are you talking about a sub-section just for fakes where new threads are added about a fake coin then closed straight away?
-
I would agree it's a late stage capped die strike, nice coin!

Just need some opinions before I spend more than it's worth getting it slabbed or whatever. 2 sets of pictures to show it in different light. What made me think proof is the obvious 'sheen' across the whole coin, and the fields are immaculate, even under a microscope, which I've not seen on a currency piece before. Thanks Matt

Ugh. Half of those are supposed to be in my collection.
-
And decimal too?

Is this proof or not?

Thanks Terry, yes the thing that made me question it is the sheen that it has, it's as if there is a thin layer of laquer across it which none of my other coins have. Maybe next time I'm in the UK I'll send it off to see if there is anything special about it then. Either way it's a very nice looking coin and one of the better examples I've got. -

Thanks all! Been staring at it for too long, I appreciate the verdicts. -
He's saying that when you see a proof graded 88 by CGS, the coin is always spot on, as in good quality, not that CGS grading is spot on
-
Thanks for sharing Prax, nice little write up. The pictures are already showing on the website as well.

Correct, toothed both sides. Sometimes the wear from circulation or die wear makes the teeth appear like beads but worn beads are still clearly beads all the way round the border.

Maybe just one of the first strikes on a brand new die? I've not really got any experience with proofs so damn near impossible for me to tell, but there's something different about this one compared to pretty much every other penny I've seen so had to ask! -

Good spot then It's always nice to have an example of the crazy toning even if the grade isn't all that. Definitely didn't overpay for the 2 bronze coins, great buys. -

Nice coins at a nice price Nons. Crazy toning on that half crown above too! -

Thanks, I'm mixing up the dates then. Also there's a filled 2 for 1932 as per Brian's coin, I think it's also in this thread. -

There's a couple of different shots in the VR Court survey as far as I can remember, in different transitions of clogging. -

That's a good example David, shame about the coin's state. I'm still on the lookout. The blocked 5 and a half decent recessed ear are on the list for this year. -
Thank you Terry, another one to keep an eye out for then. Easier checking this year for missing waves than the 1967/1966, there are just too many of them to check!!
-
Is this coin the same one Prax had or there have been 2 found now?
-
Thanks Richard.
-
This will probably mean that they open a new 'variety' in their population report for this.
-
Yes would love to see a picture please Prax.
