Selling Coin collection
Nordle11 replied to GL1977's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Take them to a coin dealer or auction house. If they are good enough or not they will tell you. You might get less for selling them in bulk, but if you are unable to do the work to list them individually then this is probably your best chance to offload them all at once. -
EU referendum - in or out?
Nordle11 replied to 1949threepence's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
Yo puedo I like the idea of free movement of course, and the trade benefits that come with being part of the EU, but these things can be setup outside of us leaving the EU surely. If not it's pretty much biting off your nose to spite your face. Just because we want to leave, does not mean we cannot all work towards other beneficial trade/financial agreements within Europe. -
That's what I said, although the dot is a little closer to the Y, picture attached.

Selling Coin collection
Nordle11 replied to GL1977's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
If the grades are good then you will probably be able to sell a lot through here anyway, but first thing you'll need is pictures of the majority of the coins. Without seeing them it becomes almost impossible to price them. You can sell via ebay or also can submit the whole collection to an auction house, some will collect the coins from you FOC, then leave them to sell them off on your behalf. It all depends on the quality of the collection really. It's good that you have some details on where they were bought and/or prices too. Can you post a few example pictures of some of the better coins? -

Get ready for your eyes to hurt. -
Pipped to the post! Which 3 did you win?
-
Well, just got the invoice through so looks like I did win.
-
Ah I see. Thanks. It was well above estimate but we shall see.
-
Actually the one I got was also at my max. If someone in the room bid the same does that mean I might not have won it then?
-
March results online. Just the one win for me, lot 2490 (struck without collar).
-
Alan sent me a picture via email to share, of an 1865/3 but with a dot under the Y. He is interested if anyone else has an example like this.
-
Top haul Jerry, well done. Looking forward to the results later to see if I actually won anything.
-
Which would you choose ?.

I would love a coin like that in my error collection, it's almost in half!! -
All these gold coins look amazing for the age. Some almost look too good to be true! ..and welcome, John

Monday morning I believe. I didn't get confirmation back until I emailed a second time a week later, to which Semra just emailed me the word 'received'... Such is her excellent communication skills

If there are bids on the book then it'll start at the highest book bid. If there aren't then the auctioneer will probably start somewhere near the low estimate and if there aren't any takers he might drop the price a bit to start the bidding. If the lot has a reserve then it won't sell if the highest bid is lower than that. This is just auction 101 surely?
-
The auctioneer, but he will keep lowering the price until he receives the first bid to kick things off.

Ebay buying increments
Nordle11 replied to bagerap's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
I think that when you list something with an auction and a BIN, once you receive the first bid then the buy it now function disappears. I didn't know this until the other day when Jon mentioned he placed a bid on a dodgey listing in order to disable the BIN so no one got stung... -
Yes I only email directly with the lot numbers and bids, that's good enough. If you've not registered before you'll need to add a delivery address too. I think in the event of the same bid, the earlier bidder will win the lot if that ends up being the highest, but don't hold me to that. Also you can't bid or listen in live, however there might be the possibility to watch the lots go on the saleroom but I'm not 100% sure if it works.
-
Although you might have just missed the cut-off, as the auction is tomorrow and Sunday! It's not entirely clear up to when you can send in email bids but it's a close call.

Also, the A in VICTORIA is clogged, but I doubt that's what you were talking about!
