    1983 2 Pence Mule

I'd agree with Rob, it being sealed inside the pack will be much better than it being slabbed. Send it to the RM.
  2. I missed a crucial word there BRG! It should have read, 'artificial' rainbow toning The real toning you get from age old silver is great, I really enjoy those pieces. I have been meaning to message you actually about a conder I have been watching that I would be grateful for your opinion on, expect a message tomorrow

    1949 Godless florin

Sorry yes I bought it and received it and then they still listed it without checking their stock. I think it was Paulus who kindly informed me he'd seen it in the auction after I'd posted on here that I had purchased it. I did email them to say and they removed it but who knows how long it could have been listed before they noticed!

Sounds like business as usual for them, I recently bought a coin from them and over a month later it was found listed in their next auction for sale.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Sorry for the double post but he has also just listed a 1863 3 over 7 At least he's keeping me entertained.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Took me a second to work out what you meant. I got there, I got there

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

A 'No H 1882' - 100% GENUINE, even though the bottom half of the date and the rest of the coin have been completely wiped away.

    1865/3 Penny

Hmmm, it's difficult Cliff. Personally I would go with BP1865Bb for the following reasons; - The bottom curve of the 3 is barely visible, whereas in Bc it's extremely visible. - The tail of the 5 extends much further past the downward stroke of the 5, more so in Bb than Bc - You can't see anything just under the downward stroke of the 5 (like Bb) but you can just in Bc. Again, it's difficult and it could be wear that's the overall look of it.
  9. I understand that the alloy is malleable but with quite a large amount of force though right? If you were to do something like the last 2 errors I posted it wouldn't be possible after it's been struck, unless you had something to keep it still without affecting the coin itself. For instance, on the damaged numerals, could you whack it with, say, a chisel and move the number around on the face of the coin? What I'm getting at is that I think they are both mint errors, but I'm not sure how they ended up how they did because the metal has moved around into different places. If the die was damaged and the metal was flowing into the broken parts, that makes sense to me.

    More Pennies

And it's people like Neil/Rasmussen/JN Coins that are keeping the top of the market afloat. If we are all going for prices under catalogue value then sooner or later the catalogue value will drop to come in line with real prices paid. It's a bugger if you're trying to get a top piece, but if you already have one then you'd be happy to see examples like these priced at what they are.
  11. I'm confusing things here by calling it a serif, I'm just saying that so you know which part I'm on about but I don't think it's a standard mint produced one, I just can't see how that extra bit (that resembles a serif) has come about from PMD. I have another coin with damage in the date, it's got a similar problem where the metal has been jumbled up during the strike although I don't know how these things happen.

Building up quite a nice collection Frank! Keep 'em coming, I'm sure there's plenty of people who are breathing a sigh of relief that they're not pennies

Also as Jerry mentioned it was in the last LCA auction you can have a look at the CGS images of the 26 ME in the Decmeber results on their website. But you'll need the pdf to see kn penny though.

    Seeing private messages

I think you're right there, it's probably also a feature better used on forums of a different nature - because it's a pre defined layout that comes with whoever provides the forum it's there when you buy it from them. As above, there should probably be a warning message saying its viewable by all!
  20. Thanks for the reply BCC, what say you about the 'serif' on the bottom of the N? I can't see how it could have been done post strike, I'd understand if the bottom part of both was completely missing but there is metal where the shouldn't be?
  21. An error I picked up the other day, but not a run of mill error. This one I don't know what happened, it looks like regular damage but there's a serif on the bottom of the N still, even though it's higher up. I think the metal has just been pushed up which has caused it, but it's different from the normal lamination flaw or clip I pick up.

    1949 Godless florin

Mynki, LCA have one graded CGS 78 @ £450 Here
  23. If it's coming there's no harm surely! On the bright side, it'll stop any more pennies being posted in that thread from now on you won't have to scroll past them to look at the other acquisitions while we wait for a new penny section!
  24. But if a new sub-forum is going to be made which holds all of the penny threads, there will be a need for an 'acquisition of the week' thread, otherwise the current one will just get penny posts inside of it and inevitably just clog it up again? The more pennies thread is just a general one for penny related stuff, not really for posting nice acquisitions.
  25. I will kick it off with the first 'varietal' buy for me, so my second example of one year but with a different die pairing - 1921 Freeman 190, dies 2 + B.
