Sorry Mike, I'm confusing myself here, I don't know why I said Pies! And the pictures in the catalogue are black and white anyway so there is only so much you can tell from them the quality is good enough to get the gist!
-
A fair bit of ghosting on the kn too. Thanks for sharing the pictures Pies
-
Thanks for the clarification Pete, Pies and 'Secret Santa'

Penny Acquisition of the week
Nordle11 replied to Paulus's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Yes good idea, and thanks for spelling it correctly -
Then maybe? Perhaps if you're a regular too it helps? I'm not sure on the rules, while it doesn't say you can bid over the phone on the day, it also doesn't say you can't..
-
Well that's rubbish I don't even think you can bid over the phone (unless you do it prior to the day)!
-
Can you even listen in live or is that not available either? I know it's been mentioned many times but they are really doing themselves an injustice.
-
It's becoming an expensive auction before all the lots have even been listed! And you just added an extra 4 names including yourself. Oh god haha
-
That's exactly what I needed, thanks
-
Paul, do you use a bulb that lights the room (one that spreads out if that make sense) or like a spot-light type deal that you can point towards the coin? I'm looking at a couple online now but I don't know what would work better..

Help grading 1804 BoE dollars please
Nordle11 replied to Mark240590's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
There are a couple of types of coins I would like to have an example of outside of my collecting area, and a chop-marked coin is one of them! I would love to own one, one day. -
Very sad day indeed. We are watching Labyrinth tonight in tribute
-
That makes more sense, but even still $1000 and under is a great limit. Like Frank says, pretty much anything over £30 gets hit with it in the UK, if it was £1000 we would all be laughing
-
Really nice capture Ian, considering that's your first attempt as well!
-
Well this was what I was thinking too, that or over polishing. But I'm yet to seen anything in between this and a normally struck one and I've checked quite a few in that area since finding out about it. Having said that the lighthouse itself is extremely weak which does give credence to the theory that it's just die wear.
-
For those that aren't sure what we're on about, here is a picture.
-
I too check a couple of '67s every now and then for the same error, Richard has given us both that bug haha I'm starting to wonder if it is unique, it would be interesting to know if any other member has seen or owns an example of it too.
-
Thanks for the sample Paul, and also the tips on backgrounds, that hadn't even occurred to me except from an aesthetic point of view! I'll have a look next week in the DIY places near me but failing that I'll probably check online, I'll make sure that they're daylight white in that case. I always prefer keeping the pictures as taken, not necessarily for a true picture but more so that I don't have to spend the time changing each one! Just me being lazy haha Frank, just realised the signatures are no longer showing up! My site's normally under my posts - www.mypennycollection.wordpress.com Despite the website name, last weekend I added all the 50ps that I collected when I first started out, the Olympic series is what got me into coin collecting in the first place! Didn't feel it was worth starting another Wordpress just for them. Looking forward to getting the 50ps with the new bust too

Haha wise move Brian I'm reckoning she's made an error, because she didn't list any 1964 pennies (if that makes sense) Pictures are terrible as is usual for eBay, the high bid has surely got to be for the 1951 and maybe the 1935. A bit of a gamble with those pictures though.
-
Just to add - I do use daylight for my photos because I just can't get the lighting right from a controlled source, I think my problem is the bulb I'm using from reading your description. Do you get them from somewhere in particular or will the local DIY shop stock them as standard?
-
Thanks for that detailed breakdown Paulus, I've been trying to get some good pictures on my Canon and can't work out why they aren't very good. I have some ideas to try now and that picture is a stonker! Do you know if you get the same sort of results photographing bronze, or will the metal not make a difference?
-
It's really good they don't have import or taxes down under, is it to promote import or what? I don't get why they wouldn't.
-
You don't get the hit every time though, more often than not they'll apply the import, duty etc but I've had a couple come through sans mark-up. Here in Spain, anything outside of Europe gets diverted to the customs office, regardless of price, and then they make you fill out multiple forms and webpages before telling you that the forms haven't been received or that the web sites are not working or a plethora of other problems. I've been stung twice like this so anything of value I get sent home to the UK and get it forwarded to me over here. The postal system here is a crock of sh!*e.

Let's See Your Toned English Milled Silver!
Nordle11 replied to Paulus's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Nice This is one thing I do miss out on only collecting pennies, some lovely real toned silver (as opposed to that rainbow coloured stuff that floods the American market!) -
