I suppose so, although you'd imagine there was someone in particular recording these figures who would've done most, if not all the scratches? Like pies mentions, are the only figures recorded about these scratched onto the coins themselves or would there be documentation somewhere to mirror it? Also could the pennies from 1860 and pennies/halfpennies from 1861 be from any one of the mints that were producing at the time then?
-
I just sent you another message, I did the exact same thing then edited out my post to say 'Don't worry' in the New Forum thread haha
-
Pies, I think what you're seeing is the messages left on someone's 'feed' and not the actual private messages. I've just sent you one as a test, try and find it somewhere that isn't in your private messages.

That's a nice example, I bet that cost you a pretty.. halfpenny (sorry) Do you think the difference between the whole fraction (as it were) being on one side of the penny and both sides of the halfpenny is down to it's smaller size? I just read that it wasn't only the London mint to do this so I guess it could have been preference, interested in what you think.

Thanks Rob, having a gander at the article now

Answered by Pete outside the forum (it won't let him log in to reply) so if anyone else is also interested it's the total minted/total tons produced.

Can anyone explain the significance of this penny for me? Not just why it went for 9k but also why the numerator is larger than the denominator?

Really nice coins ChKy, I particularly like the wheat design on the bronze

Pre '47 George VI Silver Coinage - Opinions?
Nordle11 replied to GateGateGo's topic in Beginners area
Yes be weary of that, I stick to only a pound or so over my initial bid because of that very reason. Normally I low ball a few bids on something I'm interested in to show that it's already got interest then watch it end to put in my actual maximum bid just before it finishes, as many love to do. It's one of those things that you'll never know if it actually worked but is always worth a try in case it does -
Pre '47 George VI Silver Coinage - Opinions?
Nordle11 replied to GateGateGo's topic in Beginners area
Its a good move Frank, I do the same on listings without bids - increase the bid by 30p 3 or 4 times and let it run, some people see it's got a few bids and might just leave it alone. When looking through hundreds of listings a day sometimes you just can't be bothered to check if it's the same bidder or not, and hey, if it deters just one person then that's one less bidder -
Hmm, strange one. I tried on both ipad and laptop and when I first sort I do get the flood control but after 15 seconds or so if I refresh the page it works ok. The timer does go down as well as opposed to staying on '..wait 2 seconds'.

Glad it was to your liking, always happy to help

Odd 1862 penny obverse ?
Nordle11 replied to MACKSILKY.'s topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Hi Ian, a die clash is where the dies attempt to strike when there is no planchet present. Invariably it will be the highest points on both dies that hit first and this is why the clash is where is is. -
Welcome to the forum Frank, there's not much to say that hasn't already been said but enjoy the back log of hundreds of great threads on here. There's a ton of info from some very astute and perspicacious members, I'm sure you'll have great fun.

Has no one bought a lindner tray from Chris before?
-
Another workaround for that, you can go through the pages after sorting - by changing the page number in the actual URL itself, but you can't do it by using the buttons.

Interesting metal detecting finds

Looks like the gnashers Jaws had in Moonraker -
Just playing around with it, it seems that if you first sort by something like 'Post Count' and then click page 2, it goes to page 2 but defaults back to sorting it by 'Name'. Then when you try and sort it again by 'Post Count' you just get diverted back to page 1 again.
-
Found a workaround - if you click on the search bar and then change 'All Content' to 'Members', you can then just search without anything written in the box and it brings up every member. Then you can sort by Join Date, Post Count, Name or Reputation, just as you could before. One problem is that if you click on next page or a different page number, it treats it as a new search and you get blocked by the flood control for 15 seconds. It still works, just takes a bit longer navigating the usual.

Ouch, ouch, ouch. Nearly every coin this seller is listing has been taped over Lucky most of them are just washers!
-
I never post in your threads GeorgeIII but really enjoy following what you're digging up, keep the pictures coming!

Rob has quite a nice one on his site, the lustre is a little subdued but it's still nice.

I'm about to buy 40 more capsules and one of the lindner trays as I've run out of spaces in the ones I currently have, but it doesn't say anything about it coming with the plastic cover that makes them stackable, does anyone know if it includes the plastic sleeve or is it just the red tray insert on it's own? A picture of the item is attached. Also, how do I choose to have it in red and not grey, is it just a case of adding a message to the order on checkout?

No signature function ?
Nordle11 replied to secret santa's topic in Forum technical help and support
No you're right, it's gone. I did outline some problems/issues with the new site in the thread that Chris started but I just think he hasn't had time to work out the niggly bits from the change yet.
