  1. Yes that's much better, I get 184 too. Here it is in tens, as suggested (different colour for each group of 10)
  2. When counting I usually print it out A4 size and go around with a marker counting every 10, you don't lose count that way. Sounds like a great way to do it, it's nicer to have a pen and paper too. Do you have to find high res pictures to do that so the quality isn't lost when it's blown-up tp A4 size?
  3. Yeah, histro-contrast up to 100%, brightness up a bit then zoomed in like a madman. The teeth to the border aren't so easy to spot, but the tips of the teeth are a little bit easier.
  4. Hi Mr. T, there are 186 denticles on the reverse.
  5. Add them to the useful links thread!
  6. Cheers I couldn't find it for the life of me!
  7. No idea then, have a quick search but "1897 dot" doesn't bring up anything!

    1882 London Mint penny ?

Along with the strange die pairing and the not completely blank space below the date, it certainly beckons being scrutinised.
  9. I didn't know there were varieties of the 1897 flaw, you're not thinking of the 1946 round dot and diamond dot we were talking about the other week? I can't find the thread through searches anyway but it's a little difficult on here.

    1882 London Mint penny ?

This one was sold last year as a 'no h' and has good detail, however was on the 12+N pairing. It also went for £1500 so you'd hope the bidder knew what they were doing..
  11. Or that it began as a very small chip and wore away progressively, so this was one of the first struck with this flaw and with each subsequent strike the dot became more prominent. Much better, and looks good to me!
  12. Happy birthday Bob, best wishes and have a great day!
  13. Hi Ian, you might have one with a very faint dot, I assume it's the slight bump to the left of that small chip and not the chip itself? Here's mine overlapped on your picture, I put a yellow dot where it should be to help.

Midland Coin Fair - couple of quick questions

Haha I'm glad it wasn't just me, Rob truly is a machine when it comes to anything coin related and you can have a great chat and will always learn something new. And yes, I'm tall enough at 6'1" but I'm still looking up when we talk

Midland Coin Fair - couple of quick questions

David Craddock's table is the first for me, being a penny man he's always got something good on display.

    1882 London Mint penny ?

Straight from Elizabeth? Big jump, expect varieties galore in comparison!

    1882 London Mint penny ?

Thanks VS, that's extremely dear though!

    1865 Farthing 8/8 ?

I should add that Colin Cooke's refers to 2 varieties of 8, one being thin and one being thick. Perhaps this is the thick variety? I still think the 5 is struck over something though, you can see something protruding at the tip of the 5.

    1865 Farthing 8/8 ?

Looks like reverse 1 obverse A, with a 5 over a possible 3? I'm not sure on the 8 however, I think it might just be flat from wear, I can't find any reference to the 8 being overstruck..

    1882 London Mint penny ?

Do they not use an extremely powerful microscope to check the area, just to make sure it is what they say it is? I can't remember the specific name of the technique though, but you can get a local university to do it for you.

Too right, double that's not going to happen either..

    LCA March 2016

That's good news, this should be a bloody good one for the penny lads then if they've started by listing this lot!

    LCA March 2016

Well I'm not 100% sure but I really don't remember seeing the Gouby X, the 1909 Freeman 169 or the 1922/27 just to name a few when the preview first came out, so maybe they're just slow in the process of getting the whole collection up. We can be hopeful, at least!

    LCA March 2016

You never know, maybe they've just not added the whole collection yet..
