clogs, die faults, et al.
Nordle11 replied to bhx7's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
An interesting one for me, a type-2 blank planchet. Looks great and can't see any sign of PMD, but there's what looks like a linear circle and I thought that it would only be evident after a strike and not before. I have 2 questions; 1) Does the rim rolling create the linear circle or is it part of the design? 2) Is the linear circle incuse or in relief? -

I think there's also an element of a broadstrike in there too, the rim at 4 o'clock is much thicker than at 10 o'clock. -

A classic die clog on that year, although not well documented. A good find! Keep the errors coming! -
1863 die numbered penny ?

I can literally see nothing there, and when you have to magnify that much just to see anything it seems pointless -

Gotta be logged in to use that Link Paul -
Yeah you can list stuff on here, but the audience is quite small compared to ebay. Plus you can list on ebay and then tell everyone on here anyway, just like Gary did haha. Best of both worlds.

Fingers crossed for you Brian, it's definitely one to umm over! Keep us updated

I didn't know any of these are worth something, thanks for the links bagerap!

You did well to spot a dot flaw on that first pic! You normally need a very good look at the area between O and N to deduce it.

I don't know what you're on about Paulus . . .

Just to highlight the subjectiveness of grading, here are the suggestions of grades for your first coin Swanny; Your suggestion - GEF -GVF/NEF -EF -GVF/NEF -NEF

That's the risk we take sniping listings I guess Next time I'll stick a quid on it to see if I can actually bid first haha.

One of the reasons I enjoy collecting only one denomination, although there's a lot a dross there's only about 200-500 new listings per day (plus I exclude a lot of crap in the search itself).
-
For a comprehensive list of all the denominations I like to use Tony Clayton's site; Link Or a direct link to the price lists - Link Be aware that these prices need to be taken with a pinch of salt (I find). Second port of call is searching previous auctions (I like using LCA because it's quick and easy). You can search here for anything you like, just remember the final prices don't include VAT and comission etc. and the bidders will have taken this into account, so the prices might seem slightly lower than usual. Then, if you still need further clarification, check eBay for any finished auctions and you should have a rough idea of price of whatever it is you're looking for. Rarer examples need more digging though as there's less info out there.

Well that's good, a little solace then. How much did the 1902 go for in the end then?
-
Not just that, but they've listed the 1904 that I've already bloody bought Link Here it is now.. (yes still slabbed I'm working up to it haha..)
-
Where'd this estimate come from? Link Previous realised prices - £50, £60, £50 and 2 @ £110 (but clearly better examples).

http://issuu.com/lc869/docs/a151_merged Thanks Dave, me being an idiot sorry!

Does anyone know how to look at the whole list as it shows up in the 'Auction Highlights'? I don't want to download the PDF or Excel file and I also don't want to look at them by category?
-
Jeeze, just 50 quid for the Gouby X? I'm gutted Gary, I tried to bid with a minute left and it said that 'Postage hasn't been specified for your country' and it wouldn't let me bid. That 1911 would be mine right now!! Just topped £100 for an open 3, that's about right, good sale there.

And totally agree with Mr. T, the lamination has peeled off and folded over on itself before being struck. -
