    1845 Crown (Problem Coin)

Did they mention this was holed in the auction? And if not which auction house was it?

    Coin of Nero

Also the straw/plant thing he's holding on the rev. is angled completely differently, although I have 0 experience in these types of coins!

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

The 1861 Penny is 6+G Freeman 33. Edit: Oops, a bit slow there, I didn't realise it was continued onto another page Haha did exactly what I did! Although it just further confirms the die combo which can't be a bad thing

    CNUT REX CRVCAN ON EOFE

Corrected it for you. Haha don't be coy TG that was a great explanation!

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

It looks like a 6+G but hard to tell from such dark pictures. Edit: I must have spent longer than 5 minutes working it out haha, thanks Jelida.
  6. I see what you mean now, so possibly they fulfilled the quantity required before the year was out and sent back the dies. I have nothing to negate the fact that they just reused the old dies, it really wouldn't surprise me. One question I do have - was the equipment that the Heaton and Norton guys used subpar compared to London's? Because the striking was always a bit hit and miss at the best of times, so if it was down to the dies and not the machinery, surely the dies that were sent back and re-used would produce that 'mulshy' effect that we all know and hate but on the later London minted coins? Generally the strikes on the London coins from those years is a lot better, and to be given the contract in the first place I would have thought that any test pieces they provided to get the job would have been of a much better quality, i.e a problem with the longevity of the die and not the functionality of the machinery.
  7. I can't overlay where I am but as a side by side comparison it looks as if the positioning of the H is in the same place relative to what's left of the waves above the exergue line. However, adding to what you've said Rob, if the dies were recycled wouldn't they be used for subsequent years as opposed to being used by Heaton or Kings Norton during 1918/1919 and then sent over to the London mint to be used within the same year(s)? It seems strange that the former 2 could afford to produce more dies while London were getting the hammy downs.. Unless H + KN stopped production before the year was out and London just used what was left for the remaining months? I don't know specifically how long the contracted mints produced those coins and if it was for the full year that the coins were being made?
  8. Can you elaborate Jac? I can't find any literature regarding this type of dot, at least not amid the plethora of 'Australian dot below scroll' results :/
  9. Definitely curious too, Ive checked any 1919s I have and none seem to have a dot in that place. Does the book give any sort of guesstimate as to how many are out there, or even how many have already been found? I'd check but my book's in a different bloody country haha. Matt
  10. My friend owns an 1860 Halfpenny mule he has owned it for years, I think possibly since the 1980's, its the only one that I know about and the only one that he knows about too. He mainly collects Pennies but does have a few other rarities collected. Is it a TB/BB as OP says or BB/TB?
  11. It does seem less like a purposeful dot just because of the faintness of it, but as with the other dot flaws they weren't purposeful (as far as anyone knows). There have been suggestions of the dot being used as a test for die wear and instead of the dot appearing faint and growing in size it started off as a prominent dot and slowly became clogged. I've not got David's book to hand but if he does mention this dot variety it would be good to see if anyone else has any examples. Furthermore, if it's in the exact place the H's appear, could it suggest a clogged H along with a lot of wear? I see that your example has a lot of wear too bhx?

    Die axis rotation

Good man Pete, this is why this is the best forum, for the people. Agreed with your verdict too. Bhx7, these later dates are where you'll want to get in a high grade first time round, only because you'll find that when you start picking up the more expensive years further down the line you'll find you always want to spend that £40-50 on something different and the 50 and 51 will forever wait to be upgraded. I say that because I'm pretty sure that my 1950 has had a clean in the past and whenever I have the money to upgrade it I find myself drawn to the earlier dates in an attempt to expand my collection haha. Maybe perhaps that's just me?
  13. How common is it to have a penny with a different rotation on obv. and rev.? I've not seen many but then again I don't actively look for them, but I just picked up this one and the obverse has been rotated around 15-20 degrees compared to the reverse...
  14. Open 3, 1897 dot and Gouby X (1911) are the three I always look for. Still need the former and latter though. Ive seen a few Gouby Xs around but they're advertised as such and I kind of have my mind set that I'm going to find one in a bargain bin or on the cheap on eBay, I've been searching for the last few years so would feel hard done by to pay full price haha.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Indeed a strange description, but John/Stephen (depending on who answers your message) are good guys and have helped me a lot over the past year or 2. I've had some great coins from them and they always start bidding low which is nice. Perhaps he genuinely can see something that the pictures don't show? Nevertheless, they are great on returns and I'm sure would gladly accept it back if the buyer thought it had been cleaned anyway (which I'm pretty sure it is from the photos)

You are the one single exception to the rule that I've heard of so far! Yes, Pete, I was going to say! Haha Maybe she likes you?

Ah I see! That's what I didn't get from flying it around I guess, as it was someone else's I assumed it was 'plug and play' so to speak. I guess the DJI is for the guys who spend hours a day working with them as opposed to the majority that just want to fly them around for a while every few days/weeks. I'll have to check out more on this Yuneec in that case.

We all start off knowing nothing I guess You can see though, TPGs are full of controversy and it's certainly a love 'em or hate 'em case of which we all have our reasons. Some people like myself just don't want slabbed coins. Other people, like everyone, just hate Semra (I'm sure her name crops up everywhere in those threads)

Hahaha, damn I thought they came as a bulk deal with the drone It's got really good recording quality and the reviews look great too. I've gone through about 3 so far but the best I've seen (not bought but had a play on it) is the DJI drone phantom. The image stability is insane, and it comes with a lot of cool features the others don't too. I'm actually waiting on something that was a kickstarter project which starts shipping in February next year, it's an amazing piece of kit and cannot wait to play around with it. Here's a video, sorry but I actually don't have an option to embed it if someone could? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vGcH0Bk3hg
