1919 KN EF --- BUT !
Nordle11 replied to numismatist's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Yeah looks like mint damage. I saw that one a while back on ebay, but wondered if it would fit into a capsule with that knock haha. Potential purchase? -
Really lovely coin Prax! Are you keeping it entombed?
-
Wow, serious 'rainbow' toning. How did that even happen? 351368245212

No I bought that one, I just wanted one that costs me more Jk, I did miss that one and gutted too, 50 quid is a steal..

I'm looking to pay between 80 and 140 all in, depending on the coin itself. I'm not sure about paying 140 plus commission though, that would be too steep IMO. Previous auctions I've seen go for around 75 - 100, with the best examples going just over the ton mark, so if I couldn't get it for around that I'd probably end up just waiting again. I was the under bidder on a half decent one at 55 pound on eBay the other day, so I've still got my hopes up

1877 narrow date penny - UNC
Nordle11 posted a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
This came up on ebay this morning.. (picture attached) with no obverse, a title which said "1877 narrow date penny" and a description with not much else.. He took it down and said it was an april fools joke, but where did the picture come from? Photoshopped? -

Thanks guy! How do you know Gouby's stock I can't view the shop yet.. I'm also on Mr. Craddock's mailing list but unfortunately he doesn't have pictures and I don't live in England any more so can't go to any fairs he attends to look at them ..and I don't want any slabbed coins haha. I appreciate the help in any case, this one's a bugger to get..

Hello sir. You make a good point, and yes the design is muuuch better before they get it on a coin. The end result is really lacking, however -

I don't understand why the designs on the coins we produce now are so basic and underwhelming, even more so as time goes on. It's like they can't be bothered anymore, I mean look at the (lack of) detail on her hair!?! Let alone everything else in the design. Sorry to moan, it's good to see her back on the currency, but they certainly could have done a better job of it -

Indeed, as does the beading. This and Rob's methods of checking should oust any fake you have! -

I collect error coins (albeit pre-decimal) but I've never seen incorrect flan errors go for £1000! That article was only a few weeks back, would be interested to see what the realised price was in the end. Perhaps a trial towards eventual electro-plating? The only concerning thing is the traces of copper/bronze (orange) on the two pence.. -
Interesting, I didn't know that. Thanks

Unusual 50p piece.
Nordle11 replied to Michael-Roo's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Some people call it different things I think. I've heard this being called "spooning" as well and there's a similar effect you get from putting a coin in the tumble dryer which I've heard being called "tumbling", unsurprisingly. The latter really wears all the detail from a coin though so it's blatantly obvious. -
Ah, the second lot of pictures is much much better Lovely coin, and what a bargain for a tenner too!! Although yours has the carbon spot (which isn't too intrusive), mine has quite a bit of ghosting by looking at the pictures. I'll soon see when it turns up!
-
Funnily enough I was bidding on this yesterday - Link - and managed to get it for £4.31 The wait paid off.. Unfortunately it's the other way for me, the 1930 is pretty much BU however my '32 has a slightly patchy lustre to it, although when looked at in a nice bright light it looks a lot better haha
-
Not exactly one of eBay's worst, but unusual nevertheless! Link I've seen a lot of post-mint, nifty artisan work but this one's new..
-
Nice penny I don't mind mine, especially as it was a tenner, but it shows some serious haloing around the legend. The rest of it doesn't look to bad but it's a big contrast against the '28 and '30 either side of it!

Unusual 50p piece.
Nordle11 replied to Michael-Roo's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Normal (old) 50p weight is 13.5 so no excess metal/large flan etc. Probably machined like Chris says. -
Very little remaining lustre, some rubbing to the cheekbone, average strike ... you'd be lucky to get £20 for that one IMO. I think a real gem COULD rate £65, but not your average BU. Definitely! Where's the lustre? I've had a nice 1929 for a while but it's clearly been cleaned in the past, I've kept an eye on the ones on eBay but can never find one cheaper than around £30-40..
