Bugger, thanks all the same Rob

Here's one I got not long ago, has a lovely mix of the engraving and the original design.. Possibly a Queen Victoria memento? The top date is 1837 backwards (for some reason)

I've never had any of my own coins slabbed, and never will, but is this sort of thing normal? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1945-GEORGE-VI-PENNY-CGS-SLABBED-UNC-GRADE-/291087368403?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item43c628c0d3 If they sent back one of my coins and it turned up slabbed in that direction I'd ask for a refund..

There's another thread regarding fakes and how some TPGs are still grading them as genuine and slabbing them. Your buyer should be aware that because a coin is slabbed then it doesn't necessarily make it genuine, plus he is probably paying a premium to get the coin in a slab just to remove it again. Personally, slabs don't work for me because they don't work with my storage methods, I also agree with your first buyer, I prefer to hold the coin too. (n.b. London coins and CGS are one and the same which is why they have so many slabbed coins in their auctions)

They never fail to disappoint do they?
Nordle11 replied to DaveG38's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
Wow. Just like your claim, it was just a bit of banter Dave (yes I am aware of what it means). You didn't have to start being abusive, but thanks for knocking me down a notch (and also insinuating that I'm racist), I feel much better now. -

Ok, ok... England aren't great. But before you multi-post slating them for how shit they are, can I just say that Scotland haven't even qualified for the world cup for over 15 years now... And when you did qualify, you lost the opening game due to an own goal, drew the second game then got smashed 3-0 in the third. In the famous words of Josie... Jvst a comment.. -
But that goal by Cahill was something, wasn't it? Easily goal of the tournament for me, so far..

1860 Beaded Penny Variety
Nordle11 replied to loose54's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Looks like a 1 + B (Freeman) but hard to tell with the wear. It has to be obverse 1 or 1* because the border is beaded, id say not a 1* because the eyes aren't as bulgy as they should be for that die so therefore obverse 1. The reverse has to be A, B or C (again because of the beaded border) and looks to me to have the extra lines within the shield's cross which would point to it being a reverse B. Hope that helps (and is correct lol) get a copy of Freeman you'll have so much fun -
I Definately Must Have One Of These

Azda! I just opened that link at work.. Literally on the verge of being NSFW haha, thanks for the heads up. P.S - what's wrong with one of these.. -
But your claiming from eBay, not RM. As long as you've got the receipts etc. then eBay/Paypal would give the refund and the I guess it's up to them to recuperate the lost monies?
-
Haha you picky bunch of b******s! You all knew what I meant ..and thanks Colin!

Just to echo the masses, 1918. The striations put me off the 1919!
-
Any idea what it is that I'm supposed know that no-one else does?
-
Nice error Shamo! Definitely a keeper, especially as it's a KN and the detail isn't actually as bad as some of them end up.. I think it's a nice example of this error, if you ever do sell it, give me a shout
-
Post decimal? Do you know something we dont? Sorry I'm lost now? Post decimal as in after decimalisation?
-
Ah, I see. This is called a "die rotation error" (sometimes die axis error) where the obverse and reverse dies are not the exact same degree of rotation. I'm sure this is just human error and not setting the dies up correctly when putting them in place, although I've heard of dies rotating once they've been in use for a while. Not actually as common as it might seem, and I've seen some full medal style rotation errors (180 degree turn) sell for a good couple of hundred pounds. Pictures would be good, you don't necessarily need to show the degree of rotation although you can achieve this by taking a picture of the back of the coin with the front of it facing a mirror. That way you can see both obverse and reverse and if you keep the side facing you as upright as possible it gives a clear indication how much the other side has turned. By the sounds of it, the rotation is only minimal, but you might still get more than a standard 'worn' 1918kn penny!

Do you mean the trident tip is at 12 o'clock on the coin itself (where Britannia's head is), or that the general positioning of the trident is at a completely vertical angle? Either way, the trident always has a slant on it.. Even on the 2mm version of the 1895 penny (although I don't know if the 'ONE PENNY' was moved or the trident's position itself). Got any pics?
-
Sorry, I should've specified that post-decimal flan errors don't fetch much.
-
Wrong flan errors won't get more than a couple of quid, ignore the BINs on eBay no one ever bites at those prices...
-
I cant understand what you are saying. I dont think you have a clue about the industrial process. Lol what? Makes perfect sense to me. And I'm also pretty sure Azda has an understanding of how coins are produced haha
