Quick Question From A Newbie
Nordle11 replied to Hayleyb's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries

I see.. Thanks for that anyway, I'll unwatch his 1932 if that's going to be the case.
-
I was watching that one as well. How do you know who the winning bidder is it just says private on mine?
-
Did you relist the ONE PENNEY version? There was another on eBay for the same price yesterday..
-
Not sure. My original idea was through London Coins. I did wonder about trying a BIN on Ebay just to see if I get a bite.Always worth sticking it on there for £20+ more than you think it's worth, if it sells then hey, you've made more than expected, if not send it to an auction!
-
Great link, effectively my bible for penny pictures.
-
He's just used Wiki to get those prices, they aren't normally too bad but take them with a pinch of salt. If I was home I would check Freeman/Gouby for you, perhaps someone else who has their books to hand can quote you the prices and maybe even identify the die combination too!

That doesn't bring up anything specific.. Use this symbol to post links;

Yeah looks to be aUNC/UNC. Carbon spot above Britannia's knee and an edge knock at 8 o'clock on the obverse but nothing that should bring that price down. Do some double checking of the condition of the leaves in the wreath on Vicky, it's still hard to tell because of the glare but if they're worn then possibly EF+ or gEF. If not then I'd be happy with the above grade. Good buy at £15 Sweep!

Florin 1911 - Where Is The Difference?
Nordle11 replied to Andriulis's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Hi, Gouby states the following; Obv. 1 D of F.D. to bead (Hollow neck) Obv. 2 D of F.D. to gap (Rounded neck) I hope that helps! -
It's not as easy to grade with the plastic covering giving off so much glare, but yes it looks UNC with a few carbon spots here and there..
-
That's a bloody nice coin for £15. My experience is that people on here are all too willing to help... if you post they will answer your questions..if they can't then you will normally be pointed in the right direction.. Welcome!

Penny Collectors Who Are You All

Don't worry I'm not bothering with these I like the dot examples mainly as errors and the 1916 was bought because it was such a nice example for my collection and it just happened to be a recessed ear variety. I'm limiting myself to one per year with the exception of the KN's and H's and a few things like the aforementioned Gouby X.. Perhaps once I reach 1860 I might look at varieties but I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it! -

Apart from these: 1904 '4 points to tooth' 1911 Gouby X 1915 'recessed ear' 1916 'recessed ear' 1944 'last 4 points to tooth' 1946 'ONE*' flaw Does anyone have anything not listed in Freeman? (actually Dave Groom lists a couple of other date position varieties, as I recall?) I have the 1946 and 1897 dot flaws, 1916 recessed ear (UNC) but still looking for a Gouby X There's a few different date spacings in the 1890's that Freeman doesn't list - 1899 for example where the last 9 appears further from the first 9. I've also come across an 1869 where the last 9 is a lot higher than the rest of the date.. Are all the different open 3's noted in Freeman as well? I don't have mine to hand -

Tooth Or Pearles ?
Nordle11 replied to patrick6's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
No, the most boring by far concerns the 1937 penny reverse. There's two MICRO-MICRO varieties, which have something to do with whether the exergue line crosses through a tooth or not. Both are equally common, and I've never even looked to see which mine is, or the proof, as I JUST DON'T CARE I not heard of the exergue example. The pointing of the P in PENNY is the usual way, P to tooth and P to gap. There's two obverse as well. Yeah both are the differences between the 1937's... P of PENNY to tooth/to gap and sea level crosses through a tooth/above a tooth. Plus the 2 minute obverse differences, I think it's something to do with the I or the P in IMP but can't remember exactly! Definitely a MICRO-MICRO variety as Peck says -

It's just getting silly isn't it? There was a news article recently about a 3 year old who'd caught a something from her cat in the UK and when I read on it mentioned her name was Sparkle Good work at giving your kids a head start in life..

Tooth Or Pearles ?

Bore away, there's a few error collectors on here including myself who are always happy to help. Even non error collectors will chip in I'm sure. Bear in mind that Freeman doesn't necessarily list errors but more variations of dies. You do get a few mentions of things like dot flaws but actual mint errors like strike-throughs or brockages won't be in there!
