  1. Yes vicky i agree they are both independent and should be treated as so. As per the earlier post cgs should not be comparing themselves with the sheldon scale IMO
  2. Another one i bought already slabbed 1857 penny pcgs MS65 cgs 78 Can name numerous others just using an example uin 19251
  3. It was just a coin with a ticket sword(out of a slab )and was sending a batch anyway.
  4. The prices of cgs of which i do have a bit of an idea are in general high (as everyone knows) we determine what to pay. However there are numerous that are IMO to low. 1934 penny in unc £50 (i have been looking for ages). 1911 Gouby X good fine £100 (scarce) and plenty others especially the ones they have graded 85 mint state copper pennies with full lustre are scarce for any year. Some worth more some worth a lot less i am sure i have paid sometimes more than i should of as I might not see another as nice (scarce) for a few years so just bought it. Having looked at grading in some detail i would say that a cgs graded coin is done a lot stricter especially with regards coins being rejected for problems. I have numerous coins i have submitted to cgs one was NGC MS65 came back as cgs75. Alternatively i have sent a MS 62/3 that came back as cgs 82. I dont tell cgs they were slabbed before as the grading i feel would then not be influenced by another opinion. That is not to say the other grading companies have a bigger audience and may return more money at auction or resale. Pete.
  5. I've just bought a UNC 1886 penny, which it turms out is an 8 over 8. Does this carry a premium over the plain date type? Sorry dave i dont think so just a variety that is miniscule .It was just an impulse buy for me as i didnt have one.
  6. Thanks to colin cooke coins i have just bought one. A big thank you to members of the forum for making me aware of others (PM) available over the last few weeks. Pete.
  7. Off the coin subject, but such a shame for him to go off the rails .The guy obviously has issues seeing him take the route he has over the last few years.

  13. 31 Brian. Andy jack on ebay.
  14. Just been reading about these in the paper today. A guy from nottingham just been fined £1800. It says its illegal to fly drones within 150 metres of a congested area or open air event. Then goes on to say the pilot must keep direct visual contact with the drone. Suppose its just a case of common sense.
  15. An 1870 i purchased. It was previously sold at LCA jun 2014 Lot 2448 i only mention this as although its slabbed cgs dont have a picture. Its the scarce close date 11 teeth and graded 82 cgs 3212. Pete.
  16. I think you should try on just a plain black card or similar background paul. Dont know if its me but the lines and marks detract my eyes from the coin with the background your using. Sure you will get there mate and definately worth investing the time to get it right. Were is BRG when we need him ?.
  17. Thank you both for your input. If you find any peter let me know and i will sort you out.
  18. An 1886 variety first 8 over 8. c.g.s. 22370
  19. They are really nice and you can tell the 1879 is a proof. I have an 1876 H specimen penny. Its c.g.s. 26028 but not as nice as that.

  21. Thank you peter.
  22. I will have to assume he did not write any . Or maybe everyone who has an interest in pennies on here is to young to remember.
  23. I think the last one looks best Paul. You can always try 331 though.
  24. I have found paul at c.g.s. (the guy who graded it) really helpful when i have asked him a question a couple of times. The difference will be quickly explained by him and worth a quick phone call to find out.
