Yes the format has been changed Jerry ,i have sent you the original which i have that clearly shows your name and initials by the pictures , obviously an error on Michaels part . 🙂 The original also shows B.Devitt and have not got a clue were Barrie came from.
-
I have been reading this earlier and dont know why but Michael was given the names of Blake devitt and Jerry by myself ,confirmed with me by email. Why one he has called Barrie ,unless that is correct and not what i mailed him and Jerry are not mentioned i have no idea. Pete.

The Elusive 2002 Jamaica Proof Set Remains So
PWA 1967 replied to VickySilver's topic in Enquiries about Non British coins
Hat off Eric ,nice to find something you have been looking for that is so hard to find 👍 -
If you are putting them on here Ian ,i suggest maybe a new thread to keep everything together. Maybe Copper pennies ,as will be easier to see as a reference and not get lost and easier to find.

Will someone scan it for me please 😃

A good indicator for a true 1854/3 is the hair detail ,the ones i have seen have all been struck with not much hair from an old 1853 OBV die. If a coin has all the hair in a condition of VF or better from what i have seen it wont be one. The Alderley coin which i have seen in hand had good lustre and a really good example was graded As Struck in the catalogue ,reason being it was so weak to the OBV. So as daft as it sounds to find a really good one means you are looking for a really bad one to the OBV 😃 Looking at the hair means you can quickly discount the majority if your not sure looking at the date in pictures. Lots of 1854/3 are miss described IMO as are the 1858/2 & 1858/3 as regardless of what people think they are , they are both different coins. Only the coin with a die crack through the date is thought to be over a 2 and has a different font than the other.

Rare coin lost in post
PWA 1967 replied to secret santa's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
It does not matter ,although i think to correct you the previous packet was signed for although not by yourself the sqiggle was exactly the same. They also as i mentioned didnt call at your property as i told them it did not matter for a small amount ,i dont think they lied and just follow a procedure that they have in place. The postman who has the packet is fully responsible for its delivery and the signiture , he has been passed it for delivery that morning ,if he is then questioned the GPS is able to monitor exactly were he was and at what time. This is more for anyone else reading the post that if you send something that requires a signiture the post office very rarely dont deliver it. With regards your own delivery Chris ,if you had phoned them they would of found it or atleast confirmed with the postman who did sign for it. -
Rare coin lost in post
PWA 1967 replied to secret santa's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Only just seen this Chris 😃 In fairness to the post office they could not of done anymore. As they told me the packet was delivered and signed for with exactly the same signiture as one sent to the same address a couple of weeks before.Them looking at other deliveries most were signed the same and the postman has a GPS system ,this shows them that the signiture was made at the property. They did ask if i wanted someone to call round and for £20 and not really of any of any value or scarcity told them not to bother.I dont know if someone else lives at the property or signs on your behalf but they were sure the packet had been delivered and were quite keen to help 👍 -
Yes 23 altogether upto 2019 ,this is a total for the years were a 50p of a specific design did not get struck for circulation . The others are the shield for 2009 ,10,11,15,16 & 18 and Britannia for 1983 & 1997 but as i also said these later years people are aware and pay a premium anyway.
-
Problem with that is there are 23 years that did not have a currency 50p struck and if Westminster dont advertise and hype up a year you could be stuck with them all .The latter years have already reached high prices but most collectors who maybe started collecting from change did not want the proofs.
-
No sorry they didnt send it me ,it was pasted on facebook .
-
Westminster coins sent an email out to 50p collectors on Thursday night ,hyping them up rarer than Kew gardens etc 🙁
-
If anyone has a 1974 proof set ,sell it 😃 The 50p collectors are all buying the 1974 50p Proof for daft money.
-
He has had if for nearly two years Mike ,it needed someone to see it like the buyer who has mainly focused just on bronze and didnt know about or look for them before looking on Richards site 👍
-
This sold the other day ,power of the forum and Richards rare penny site ?

Penny Acquisition of the week
PWA 1967 replied to Paulus's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I I Think the question is Terry ,is this a bisect 8 as in the one everyone is aware of BP1898B 11 teeth ,last digit over tooth. Or is it a different font ? -
Penny Acquisition of the week
PWA 1967 replied to Paulus's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Looking at the 8 the bisect 1898B has both of the ends of the bottom loop forming a point.Although they may appear slightly different they are both not the same as the normal 8. The bottom picture does not form the same point and a different font ,also the 9 appears wider to the loop or die wear IMO. -
Thats the point i am trying to make Paddy ,you dont need a glass / book /website now if you look at the design its completely different. My eyesight is not the best but could spot one straight away ,better looking at the shield and comparing it with any other copper penny ,you dont even need to look at the OBV with the year on to spot one. Remember to check every 1847 penny you may now have the chance to buy as like most varieties ,if you dont know what to look for you will never find one 😃
-
I would have to disagree Paddy about the only interesting feature , it has a completely different REV (mainly the shield ) than any other victorian copper penny .They were being looked for before the Medusa was ever noticed ,It was only pointed out to me by Terry when the first one sold at LCA that there appeared to be a face and showed mine to the wife. She said "its a Versace coin " "it has a Medusa on it " and thats were the name came from , although people have been looking for them for twenty years the Medusa was never noticed before Terry spotted it. The Victorian copper penny series is not that many really 1839 - 1860 ,so anything that is different in design such as the large rose mentioned will become sought after by the few collectors there are. This is a rare one which makes it even more desireable ,dont fight shy of looking for one ,as they sell for a few quid if you find one 🙂
-
Yes ,Richard will also know the ones known to date although a few are in private collections 👍
-
You will struggle to find any not known about to date Mike and the first one was discovered about twenty years ago , so far only 12 known. The one that sold for £500 was mine and the other a forum members. They are definately Rare and will be hard to find ,just to get some 1847 pennies to check is hard and only 1 or 2 a month listed on ebay.
-
Its the same one as Coopers coins.
-
The 1847 No Colon & Medusa is the same coin Peck ,so other indicators such as the shield & rose are easier to spot.
-
Yes i was putting both on Will but to save any confusion deleated the ebay one 👍

This was the Alan Stevenson coin for anyone that might be interested in one. https://www.cooperscoins.com/collections/florin/products/victoria-1847-copper-penny-extremely-rare-no-colon-pattern-gvf
