Hi azda i must mention only about 10 k was spent with niel .Some have also been through auctions and michael gouby.I have not really bought them as an investment ,more an interest and if in twenty years time they are worth less atleast i enjoyed buying them .Sure your son is happy and thats more important than anything all the best and be lucky
-
I understand peck ,collecting the pennies was just an interest and sometimes takes my mind off the negatives .Yes the money helps and i wish you well.
-
Dont suppose the money is ever really spare peck ,however dont really have an issue in buying something i consider an assett .I worked hard to make a few quid and retired at forty.Although my health is not the best happy to buy and enjoy collecting coins.Be lucky. The point i suppose i am making is yes got the money ,but alot of the time would prefer to feel well everyday.
-
Of course gary . If i am not about her mum is a lot sharper than me and knows how much i paid for each coin

I have recently been putting together a few pennies .These are to be put away for my grandaughter for twenty years. The main thing is i have spent about thirty thousand choosing the best grades and given me an interest and hopefully hold there value. For the cost of spending an extra few pound it gives me peace of mind, that when i am not here and she opens the safe would like to no she has a quality collection.Would like to also express my thanks to niell paisley who has helped me to put the collection together and the last ten coins just received back from cgs all graded 80/82/85 were just as he said and spot on.Buy from a reputable dealer and wont go far wrong.I buy the coin and not always the slab but a lot of the ones over £500 nice to have the best ones about knowing they are ok and give my grandaughter a few quid.

If england win i will come for a hand job off mrs P.More chance of being hit by lightning,Although fancy a draw and would be a good result.
-
You can have two shill bidders and make any number of excuses why the winner/winners did not pay .I have had numerous offers to buy ,down the line and all becoming a joke.
-
Suppose its peoples instinct to be greedy ,however dont like anyone to be ripped off.Be interested in original post from paulus as to his thoughts .I no its no big deal and we all spend money on what we like although£490 is not realistic.Hope he gets stuck with it .Be lucky
-
Sorry azda all makes sense was a bit tongue in cheek and i apologise .The coin does not finish until tomorrow and thought i had been drinking to much. Most of the ones he has sold have been over the top.Anyway thought it was nice that we agree that they dont stack up
-
How do you no he was the winning bidder?.
-
Thats fantastic and hope does well ,my queary was it seems way over the top and always needs to be an underbidder.
-
Or even azdas pouchj
-
Somtimes buying slabs is the only way over the last couple of years peter to get what you may want / need . An 1869 penny sold at the last l.c.a . For £1400 plus commision in a reasonable grade . I would be happy to pay a lot more for an unc one weather in a slab .cardboard box or even a durex.Does not matter.
-
Thanks for your reply rob was starting to think i was becoming dafter than i am.
-
In fairness i have a PORTFOLIO with stanley gibbons which has been paying much higher interest than any building society would of given me over the last three years.Although mine have been in high quality rare errors of which the chinese have been paying a premium for lately.Just cashed some in after two years and made 11% after fees so more than happy and have an asset with an interest.
-
Yes thats why i posted peck .They have it on the c g s site at £350 and it is a nice grade, was going to throw a late bid in of £250.But £490 is not possible surely
-
Always not sure on private listings paulus i have just had about thirty graded by cgs and a lot finest known an 1841 at 85 and would not expect £490 even though there value is £600. Was watching the others and good luck to him.Maybe i should be selling mine
