https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MILLED-EDGE-GEORGE-V-PENNY-COIN-1916-RARE/352575682858?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 I bought this as a curiosity the other day and the seller sent me a letter with it. The owner at the time had sent the coin to the Daily telegraph i suppose due to no computers for pictures etc and hadnt thought of sending it to the Royal Mint. They must of thought putting it in the paper that they could get a few quid for it. Needless to say within there reply on the 2nd july 1969 they said we dont have a clue why it has a milled edge

BSJ Auction - Is Anybody Else Having Difficulty With Approval to Bid?
PWA 1967 replied to VickySilver's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I think the comments made by Courtney are only going to be about the BSJ site of which he has given the oportunity to mail him / them should anyone wish to do so. The tab on the Baldwin site directs you to them and they have nothing to do with the Baldwin site. Both are completely seperate and different companies not even in the same building. About twelve months ago i had trouble logging on and a phone call soon sorted everything out ,of which since i have never had a problem. The baldwin site has been in the same format for years and the BSJ added on only about eighteen months. If anyone feels something could be improved or alternatively is Rang then comments IMO are better directed straight to either of the two companies rather than expecting them to discuss any issues on here. I should perhaps also mention as a positive i have sold over twenty lots with them and been more than happy with the prices realised (on most ) and the service. -
Yes it says in the Second edition of Freeman. "Since the last edition was published the Royal Mint has obtained an electron microscope which enabled the conclusion to be reached that all Bronze with a grained edge had received them after leaving the mint "
-
I am sure i have read the edge was put on PM and therefore not intentional ,not done at the mint.. Although sorry Mike i cant point you to a reference as cant remember where i read it...... if i did ☺️

Who pays cash for banknotes?
PWA 1967 replied to Nicholas's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
Ian gradon IMO pays the best prices depending on what you may have and the condition. You will find his website if you just google his name ,although looking you being in Australia is probably a disadvantage as he would need to see them ☺️ He does not update his site often or show a lot as always turning notes over quickly and does most of the shows both here and in europe. -
1955 threepence - struck on a rolled thin planchet ?
PWA 1967 replied to JLS's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Possible lamination error before the blank was struck or a blank intended for a different coin ? I believe the sheets were rolled together causing one sheet to join another of a similar thickness. If they did not join the blank would be thinner but the same size diameter ,although ones i have seen tend to be more weakly struck. Either way if the coin is thinner it obviously wasnt the correct thickness when struck as cleary shows the design on both sides ( apart from the daft acid things PM ) ,so either lamination or a blank meant for a different coin mixed in with the others. -
Just typed in the search box..........mrbadexample and that came up

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/England-George-III-Coin-Counterstamped-I-Dick/372555784300 This seller thinks his coin is beautiful ,so much so he has even put his name on it 😮
-
Yes Neil paisley but he has moved on to Baldwin & Baldwin ST.James you would need to speak to Lee who now runs Colin Cooke.
-
i think another and the most important bit is how much the final cheque is for 🙂 Having sold through a few different auctions both coins and banknotes being good to buy from can be different than good to sell with. its important to look at the total fees as its easy to see prices coins have sold for but important to look at what you would actually receive. Everything will sell but not much fun if you risk only getting a small percentage of the true value.
-
Only Lee will know the answer to that and worth a call although would be a thousand lots approx unless all the cheap ones were taken out. Most of the auctions mentioned 150/200 Lots have relied and included the big ticket items as Rob mentioned coins at over £1K to make the auction worthwhile and although there may be quite a few (i only looked at the pennies) photos ,catalogue etc having so many would be a lot to manage especially for coins of less than say £30. Lee would definately be one of the people i would ask to buy them or maybe do an auction of all the better pieces.
-
Maybe take out all the ones with a realistic value of about £100 + to sell at auction individually with a sensible reserve on each lot. The ones left i would sell to a dealer rather than putting groups together in auction ,they will want to see them before commiting to a price , however most will travel if they know your a serious seller or you could take them to a show. You will know the dealers you can trust and its easy to get a courier to deliver them being another option. All the ones less than say £40 are IMO not worth the hassle of listing individually on ebay ,some may sell for a bit more than expected and some for a lot less so selling them in one go for a sensible price is much quicker with know returns ,postage or looney buyers.Possibly put the ones on ebay at between £40 /£100 as a BIN for a few weeks to see if some go. The only other option would be to book a table at a busy fair for yourself but you may not wish to go down that route and again costs involved. Its a shame to break up a fantastic collection however good luck. There are lots of buyers on here (although a lot dont post) so definately worth posting on this thread should you decide what to do with them.

Music to sort coins to
PWA 1967 replied to Paddy's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
Probably the best gig i ever went to as wasnt expecting to go . Me and a mate took a wagon load of maggots over as a breeder over there was running short for a fishing festival. The guy who had the farm over there gave us the tickets for doing him a big favour 🙂 -

1909 F169 The one that went unsold in the last LCA.
-
Yes by using someone elses account. Put a bid in for £1000 so you know it will be higher ,it will then show the £140 then just retract the bid as entered the wrong amount in error and put in £139 a day or so after.
-
I dont think the seller had any idea what it was and wasnt intending to deceive. There does not appear to be any shilling just listed at 99p and they have not sold a coin before. On the other subject of sniping it has the benefits rather than leaving a bid a few days before at the highest you want to pay ,on a coin worth a few quid its to easy for the seller to see your maximum bid. I.E. You leave a bid for £140 a couple of days before ( that shows a lot less ) the seller has a look on another account and puts in a shill bid of £139 😟 You see some accounts that have retracted loads of bids and doubt they have made that many mistakes.
