    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Yes Jerry i agree and can remember someone blowing the pictures up when it was for sale and was just wondering if anyone else had any thoughts.Regardless of what die the obverse is i would never spend good money on one as would always be thinking is it or isnt it ....or have i just spent a few quid on a blocked die or Rang. Happy to have a gap for that one
  3. This is the biggest problem imo they are cleaning them not conserving then.... putting in plastic and think its ok
  4. I think from memory a forum member had a similar experience with an 1861 or 62 proof penny ,cant remember exactly what year. Although that was just on the Atlas site i think , not an auction and was able to return it .....there is a thread about it on here. The coins are no doubt not what they look like (either doctored pictures or conserved ) in hand but if you can return anything regardless of the seller atleast the choice is down to yourself. As far as buying one in auction for a few quid without looking at it or someone else on our behalf we only have ourselves to blame.

Does that mean the one with OBV 12 sold at LCA for £1500 was definately not one ? I only ask as someone must of thought it looked right

Thats another good reason for passing them on Peck you dont have to look at my crap pictures Easier to just put them in a bag for me and get rid of them in one go rather than taking pictures and posting individually. As mentioned in earlier posts there are loads of them although it was a good one . I have been wrapping pennies up today ( most sold without pictures although i am happy for them to return any) to post to forum members in the morning and just put that in with the ones going to a dealer. Pete.

  9. Clever pictures and thanks for posting them, just shows the pictures have jumped the price up considerably.

The dealer will have it believe me as i send him coins of all types almost every month or two......Like a "lot" as you mention. I wasnt just going to send him the one 1954 Florin Like i mentioned he takes the good and the bad and often as we are talking £100 s the odd £10 does not really matter either way. I only really put it on here out of boredom and giving me something to do ,it certainly was not because i needed the £25. You mention them hating coins less than a hundred years old well................... I bet almost every milled denomination collector has coins dated from 1918/1953 and is were most milled collectors start. Yes they are cheap and cheerfull but new collectors seem to buy them all the time Like Peter you may have moved on or not what your collecting interest is so you dont even need to look at them ?. Dealers maybe buy what buyers want and not what they want......if you understand me

I thought you had just cracked up and wondered what you were on about. Yes the gouby x was a forum member but he has not read this yet

    1908 Penny (take 2)

At first i didnt want to post and let anyone know my opinion on an open forum...... which is all it is. However you did ask the question and keen to see what others may think I would put on as a BIN or offer for a month first and just try it as a more specialised penny. A mate of mine put a decent 1911 gouby x on before christmas, good photos and description. It was on for ten days and finished on a sunday night. I felt bad him posting it me as i bought it for £3 You dont want anything daft like that to happen.

Dont thank me mate as you may get more and will let others decide Just giving you my opinion ,however i do try and keep intouch with prices as with some other low grade ones if i know there are more being found i know its time to get rid of mine

In that condition anything over £130 ish in your pocket and you have done well.....IMO More are turning up like most varieties and this just brings the price down. You may be able to ask more to someone who really wants one.....just need to find them and if at auction there are fees One is for sale on ebay that was purchased at LCA in Sept/Dec but been on a few months. Dave craddock sold a couple last year for £100 each (maybe cheap) and although i did not see them or the pictures i would not of thought they were lesser grade. Maybe i am way off as they were selling for £250 ish when i bought mine a couple of years ago although it is better and as i have mentioned more have turned up since then. Terry found a good one recently and they will always command a hefty premium as if its scarce will be even harder to find in a good grade. I was going to say £100 but thought i would make you feel better Good luck.. Pete.

As Peter has rightly said its not worth putting in an envelope and will just pass it on Pete.

I dont know what your sorry for. Its just as easy for me to put in a bag with all the others and send to a dealer who will take everything. However i thought somebody may want one

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

What i mean Zoo is its in the book as 1893/2 not just the coin pictured all of them with the downward bit below , not sure if they are all really a 2. If the coin has more lustre or viewed through a glass you can see more clearly.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Lots can look similar Zoo such as Gouby Ac has made me doubt as weather it really is a 2.

Well lets hope he does read the forum and makes a point of looking at it more often as not doing himself any favours.
  24. Hat off thats a really good one Richard I assume with it just having an estimate of £80 they had just listed it as a 1861 ?
