I think the seller will be more than happy

1953 VIP Proof Halfcrown Help with obverse Dies
PWA 1967 replied to youliveyoulean's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Not knowing anything about these i have been looking with interest. Martins post above is the best indicator i would of thought as not any doubt. I of DEI to bead........Looks to be spot on if OBV 1 is to gap Also the + Nick mentions although again would need to see the other OBV. Ideally be nice to see two coins pictured the same size next to each other......but obviously different OBV . -

If i wanted one that much i definately would not be leaving a bid Makes me think are people who leave bids even viewing or asking someone to have a look at the coin or just buying from a photo ?
-
I dont think there is any chance of stopping it. It can only happen by leaving a bid of which you just have to take it on the chin Its a case of go to the auction, bid live on the internet /phone ,use a dealer or as i have a forum member. Most auctions you can bid live (as in the above) so i dont see any reason to leave a bid and how do you know you were not bid up. Yes you may ask someone to go to your maximum and not get it as your maximum was matched but atleast you know exactly. If you leave a bid and dont get it.......its only a coin.

Why was some of the best music during the rave years absolute quality even though there are no words. I have just been listening to Clock.......Holding on...... for ten minutes and still gets my head nodding and jaw going Although maybe its just me who is daft and never grown up.
-
Do you know what price the bidding started at live ?. i.e. You left a bid of £500.Auctioneer starts at your bid of £430 against £450 your bid £480 against £500.

The 1888 missing serrifs is not scarce infact there is probably nearly as many without as there are with. The slight difference in your own coin is the second I and i doubt anyone would be interested in that as its such a tiny difference. Overall its a 1888 Penny thats been graded 82 which i am sure will be nice. 1888 Penny problem free high grade with good lustre for £90 was a fantastic buy......Hat Off
-
Also Nicks indicator second I in shillings. Hat Off Zoo and get it sold
-
Glad your happy with them Mick. The coins you bought and sent were for your own reasons and came back at the grades / varieties and problem free. Getting another opinion rather than just putting them away will not do any harm. The actual value is IMO not as important as you probably wont be selling it and adding to your collection / interest in the year. Some prices though for certain pennies are cheap and i would be happy buying them already slabbed and pay full price as i am keeping a constant check on prices through auctions, dealers lists etc.One penny i would if the coins appeared right buy a hundred cgs of one year in UNC today .Obviously some will be expensive and this is all relevant to buy the coin not the slab /price (which is what your doing right) or weather the coin is worth even sending although £15 is not much to pay.You will see even more so now everybody does not have access to there website coins being sold alot more than the cgs price a recent example being a penny cgs price was £375 less than it sold for in auction and was attributed correctly. The prices are also updated as more come available the price may well come down alternatively if auction prices increase or coins are hard to find they may well go up. All good fun Your buying nice coins and Hat Off to you. Lastly the 1888 penny you bought i doubt cost you so much Pete.

1890 Penny Obverse Legend Difference

Hi Christie. The coin pictured 1912 H penny the H stands for Heaton Mint who struck it. Most coins of just year type need to be in collectable / better condition with more detail. Such as being able to see the fingers /shield/letters etc. For that reason that one is worth nothing and if the other coins are all kept in a box together and look similar they are probably of know value. Maybe take a picture of the one you think looks the best and see if you have a penny dated 1860-1863 which may be worth something ,alternatively 1864 or 1869. Pete.

Thank you both so much for your replies . Its also interesting to find such a big difference in opinion as a full grade.I suppose as always its hard to tell from a picture but have learned the fact its a Key date and they can be weakly struck.I will be interested to see what it does sell for and will have to keep an eye out for a really nice one for myself

All gone....The 1907 posted to a dealer and the 1934 to be put in a slab
