Yes the Large date is only what i consider rare in grades above VF ,like most copper penny varieties you can find most if you look hard enough. Try finding them in high grade though...... I have this Large date in the Baldwin Auction and not many as good to the best of my knowledge ,if it wasnt for the ejection pinch at the top i feel it may of graded higher.

Not the exact same place ,but i bought this penny the other week and in between the same letters ,maybe something to do with a setting out mark as a bit coincidental that the dot could be anywhere else on the coin. -

Just to add to how rare these are although you know F474 4+C. I have just been talking to Dave Craddock and over 40 years has looked at thousands and never found one ,in his opinion they are much rarer than R12 👍 If he tells me something is extremely rare it will be , as MOST types of BRONZE coins he will of had a few of and probably handled and looked at more than anyone else. -

Not purchased this week but received back from NGC today. Really happy with the grade as although its a weak strike as quite a few are they are scarce BU and Graded RED. Verify NGC Certification | NGC (ngccoin.com) -
Yes Dave phoned me Sunday asking why he had lots of people ask him for it , as he didnt think they were rare and seen and had plenty Large roses. By his own admission he didnt know the SMALL date was worth more and just priced as large rose 😀 The coin in Balwin is mine and the Low estimate of £400 i felt going off previous sales with only a few known fair.

Baldwin bought the coin last Tuesday and the OBV picture just a quick one on the day they bought it. The coin has now SOLD though ,just incase anyone was interested ,rather than wasting your time making enquiries.
-
One thats a bit different that Baldwin have bought , much better than the other they sold not long ago. Gold penny and with provenance back to 1871.

Looking at the sale at LCA with the LOT number that is still on the slab ,its the same coin i used the REV picture of on the other thread. I wondered where it may of ended up or who may of bought it from LCA ,well spotted. Its also on the CGS website as 2 + B 👍

Reason i put this on is the coin has gone to auction with some others and did not want to suggest to the cataloguer something that wasnt correct or misleading. I think " Rare with very few known above VG grade " is honest ,i didnt want the coin to be listed and then find out there were plenty i didnt know about.
-
Sorry i know its only a date width ,however i believe these to be rare in grades above VG. If anyone has one better than VG can you let me know please. BP1896Ad 11-5 teeth ,with the 6 to the right of a tooth.

Using laser to clean coins !!! | cleaning coins in few seconds with this new technology. - YouTube Makes me wonder if they use this on some they clean / conserve to get rid of the crap and leave an even colour ,even though they are removing the top layer. I have seen a couple recently that have come back much worse than they were sent for conservation and is daft that they reject them for being cleaned BUT think its ok if they do it.
-
Yes its an 1865/3 ,just not very clear on the picture. The coin was mine and the Satin type of which there are four was confirmed by John Jerrams for me a few years ago.
-
Yes ,only a few which is all i wanted. An ebay seller used pictures of one to desribe a coin ,so sent him a message asking if i bought the coin (which i didnt want) could i have the list please 😀

No ,its just a mark and nothing raised or another dot there , i can see what you mean though. Sometimes on a picture we can see things (Dots) that we want to be there but are not and just dirt , toning spot , carbon spot ,damage or general marks. Almost as if we want it to be something that often is not and by keep looking convince ourself it is. Well spotted though 👍 -
