Is that any different to those of us who have never had a say about membership until now, or dealing with a governing party who you did not vote for? If anything this should encourage the younger generation to realise that democracy actually works and that if they can get enough support for a change in the future it has the possibility of becoming a reality. It was nice to actually have a vote that counted

Now I don't expect many of you lot are football fans, but there may be one or two. I often put together a bit of a sweep for friends and family as a football tournament approaches, and thought I would do one for the Euro 2016 finals. It is a bit of a laugh and gives you the chance to prove to your friends that you are a footie guru for just £3 !! Rules: 1. Predict results and scores for each group match...3 points for correct result only, 5 points for correct score and result. 2. Then predict which teams will reach each stage of the knockouts, 4 points for every team correctly predicted to make the last 16, 8 points for every team correctly predicted to make the Quarter Finals, 10 points for every team correctly predicted to make the Semi finals, 15 points for every team correctly predicted to make the final and 25 points for predicting the tournament winner. 3. The final pot will be split so that 1st place gets 50% of the pot, 2nd place gets 25% of the pot, 3rd place gets 15% of the pot and the person in 1st place at the end of the group stage will win 10% of the pot. All cash received goes into prizes. 4. Maximum of 100 entrants, first come first served. £3 per entry, to be paid in cash or via paypal (friends and family) to colin@aboutfarthings.co.uk A full set of completed entries will be issued to each entrant, so that all completed forms are witnessed by everyone (I will remove the e-mail addresses from the form for privacy). Updates of the score board will be issued through via e-mail at regular intervals. Welcome to the forum...you can get some nice coins from the Empire for very reasonable prices. There are also a whole host of designs to aim for. A side collection of mine was to collect farthing sized colonial coins, and it has been a slow process but it is a wide range of coin designs and metals.

Prax... I have the Norweb catalogues...lot 43 is a saxon penny...is that what you are after? I can give more info if it is

Can't think of any named farthing collection that could relate to.....I thought maybe Colin Allerton at first...but it doesn't seem to fit, it does seem to read Collection.

If it was mechanical slippage/movement, then you would expect similar doubling features radiating out across adding letters/features. If it is only an isolated feature on that particular letter then it could be as a result of touching up when the matrix/master die was originally produced

Dave they wouldn't get the chance unless they were in the auction room with the rest of us. A single coin would not be recordable and therefore would not go through the treasure process.

I wouldn't be selling through Spinks at the moment, they seem to have no end of technical issues when auctioning. As a result I think the prices realised would be less, unless you were auctioning something prestigious then I would be tempted just due to the name.

You can get it for about £30, I think I got mine as a best offer on eBay at about £25. Good read about the local mint and certainly puts some character to the big names of the time.

@IanB if you are using a Mac, Filemaker Pro would also be a good option if you can gain access to that software through work. I did the move to Mac last year and use Filemaker instead of MS Access that I used to use on Windows, and I actually find Filemaker simpler and less cumbersome...although a bit more costly to purchase. My replacement system following transition is still under construction, but it is getting there.

Nice example...one of the most harshly graded series due to the artificial darkening (in my opinion). The dark lustre encourages us to perceive what may just be lustre loss as wear because it is so visually obvious. If you took a light finished full lustred coin and removed the lustre in the places that are evident on this coin, I doubt it would even be noticed!! 1903 is a tougher year than many appreciate..and is the low tide year for this series.....
