Help with a grading a 1787 sixpence please

Thanks for the replies. I've just measured the coin at 24mm diameter so according to my research that makes it a shilling rather than a sixpence.

Help with a grading a 1787 sixpence please

Thanks, I'll try and take some better pictures myself tomorrow and post them up, to see if that helps. Looking at the space above George's head it seems like it might be a shilling rather than a sixpence. What is the best way to tell them apart, by weight or size?
  5. I normally try to stick to slabbed coins as I am still developing my grading skills, but I've recently purchased a 1787 sixpence and I'd appreciate your advice on the grade and value please. Here are the sellers photographs: It was sold as 'Uncirculated' but I dont think it grades that high. All comments and advice greatly appreciated.

Midland Coin Fair - Suitable For Beginners?

Thanks for the information - very helpful.
  7. Hi I'm fairly new to UK coins and was thinking of going up to the Midland Coin Fair in June, as we haven't got any coins shops locally, so up to now I have only purchased via Ebay. I'd appreciate some feedback from attendees as to whether it's 'beginner friendly' or not? I am particularly interested in the period 1902 to 1946 (Florins/Half Crowns) and have a max. budget of up to perhaps £5 - £10 per coin. Does that sound like the sort of thing you can pick up? Thanks in advance for any information. Ed.
