1773 farthing with overdate - 3 over 7 ? New variety ?
Michael-Roo replied to JLS's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
There's something there with the 3, but the reverse die doesn't match Cooke's 364. 364: first leg of the second N points to the wrist. End of spear points to the one. There is a space between the two sevens, etc. -
1694 halfpenny with reverse die errors

Absolutely Rob. Look at the obverse Ts on this 1700. And what's that under the IV, an O? -
1694 halfpenny with reverse die errors
Michael-Roo replied to JLS's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Returning to the original topic: These are described as I over A or I over inverted V, but they're neither of these are they? That limb, showing to the right of the I, isn't a match for either. Here's a 1700 I have which shows the same limb to the right of the T and, while we're at it, what's that going on to the left of the T? Yes, I know it's a horrible specimen, but it's the only one I've seen apart from Nicholson's (144), and mine is a shade better than that one. Same die. Note the extra blob above the olive branch. -

If your Nicholson MVRIA (I remember seeing the sale prices before they were taken down) is offered at a sensible price I may be interested. -

I think I remember seeing one sold though DNW some years ago which was around NEF. Surely the best extant? -

Nicholson 053. Yes. Yours, mine, the Nicholson, all the same die. Extremely rare but, as you say, not only two as seen by Peck when compiling. As is the way with these things, new examples appear over time. Check out past DNW sales. -

This one is as rare as hen's teeth. Here's mine own for comparison. Not great, but the best I found/was willing to pay for in the past 20 years. Comparing this with your imgur photos I think, yes, we can determine a match. -

Over graded, and I'm seeing a few spots of verd on the reverse too. Helmet, right arm, rim teeth below the O, etc. -

Content is useful, but your choice of opening image is sexist, immature, and has nothing to do with the subject. C'mon Dave, I'd like to think you're better than this. -

If things weren't so serious it would probably be funny. -

Watch, great deal at H Samuels
Michael-Roo replied to azda's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
I shall now retire to a darkened room for a quiet lie down and from where to best ponder the mysteries of existence. Please rouse me when all this unpleasantness is over… Peace and good will to you all for 2019. -

This week, just about every shop, on every high street in the land, will be offering 60% off the tat they can't shift. I take your point re. modern watches, but still assert they are aesthetically unattractive. They all look as though designed by manufacturers of children's toys. -

Nice. Should I ever take up watch wearing again this would be the kind of thing. Classic, understated, aesthetically pleasing. -

It does a bit! Though I'd never hold that against you Dave. Have a great 2019.
