Happy Birthday Phil and Nordle.
Michael-Roo posted a topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
Hope you both have a good one. -
Morpheus. No need to apologise. If English is a second language to you then well done. The content of your posts will be easily understood by anyone reading them here. As you point out, very few members would probably be able to make themselves as clear in a language other than English. Continue posting. The forum is a very friendly place .

There are a few nice EFs up for grabs http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Coin-Victorian-Penny-Young-Head-EF-1855-/381048592159 Most of the grading seems to be by consensus rather than by any analysis of the coin's wear which is why the EFs end up as UNCs and the VFs as EFs. But I can't grade for toffee so... I propose a new two-tier grading system. I was just reading some of his feedback though and I feel sorry for him actually, assuming his responses are honest as it would appear that other sellers are trying to discredit him on false grounds. From the same seller……. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Coin-Penny-Full-Lustre-1916-George-V-/381072204148?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item58b9ac6174 Be fair - he does say the coin's condition is 'Good'. I'm not going to argue with him Also 'impressive' and having 'full lustre' .

Happy Birthday michael Roo

Thanks chaps. Yeah. The candles are becoming a bit of a fire hazard now, but I've managed 21 years more than Mozart did, and I'll always be younger than Keith Richards. Wouldn't say no to his dosh though . -
Looks NEF to me.

Stuart, you're right. The colour values in the rest of the photo look to be pretty accurate. The coin could well be brown! I also agree it looks like a tun mm. Clear on the reverse, but on the obverse possibly been fiddled about with. If an earlier coin had been over struck, why would it be done in such a way? Both obverse and reverse designs and legends completely replaced, but just the tiny area where the mm appears left unchanged? Nah…..

link Seller states "Hand mint mark is attributed to Elizabeth I. The rest of Elizabeths' likeness was removed and re-hammered with Charles' likeness. Very unique piece of history. All questions welcome." A snip at twice the price .
-
Here, from my collection, is an example of a straightforward counterfeit halfpenny of the same period. A very dangerous business to be involved in back then!
-
And 'Britain's Isles' on the reverse. Rob would probably be the bloke to ask about the initials under the bust. They are in relief, so unlikely to have been engraved later.
-
I know, you might scratch them - the tweezers that is.
-
I know all three items offered for sale are tat but, all the same; metal tweezers????? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BUN-HEAD-VICTORIAN-PENNY-/221613015230?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item33992a40be

Perhaps an abbreviation of shiny bright? Something like ... SHIGHT would do, no? . Excellent!
-
Maybe, but even a poor picture beats the initials "red brown". I mean, for heaven's sake! Every single (just about) Vicky copper is a red-brown colour, even when worn to hell. It's meaningless. Apart from the polished ones which appear on ebay that is. Lovely and shiny bright . Which initials would be best used to describe the colour of those?…….

Well said Damian. I couldn't have put it better….

Did you read the item description in the listing? Not only optimistic but borderline rude too! Is it rude to say people who don't want to spend anything are not welcome? Over the years I have seen/received a lot of derisory offers that were well below intrinsic value, let alone their price as a collectible. OK, in this instance the price is just plain silly, but I can see where he's coming from. In this case, yes it is. I refer to the words used, not the intended meaning.

Did you read the item description in the listing? Not only optimistic but borderline rude too! The description reads... "RARE INDEED! Serious collectors get in touch or just press that button. The usual pennilesstimewasters need not apply!!Yes the case is empty .From an original issue of just 773 sets, after two world warsand 120 years gone by,it is thought less than 200 sets exist!! With a complete set costing well in excess of the Spinkvalue of £20000 this case is a must to start building a set". I'm almost tempted to ask to contact and ask him if the case is empty. We could also ask: Do you know how many sets were originally made for issue? Can you tell me how many world wars there have been? How long is it since these sets were produced? Do you know how many are thought to have survived? What is a 'Spink'? Why is the 'Spink' insisting I build a set? Does the 'Spink' have something to do with badgers?

1863 one penny confusion, help please :)
Michael-Roo replied to will6489's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
No, I didn't mean the date. Have a look at the right hand side of the obverse - do you see a very much larger than usual gap between the teeth and the linear circle? I've rotated the image the correct way up, and it's still there. Particularly noticeable by REG.F Once pointed out it seems very obvious indeed. Quite unusual. -
Hi John. You're quite correct. It simply means no sales information is recorded for examples in those grades. It usually applies to common modern coins. Did you decide yet on which series you will collect?
-
I see you've put your coin on ebay!

You'll be detecting in the Mystery then?
