miscut 20p
CartwheelTwopence replied to clank's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
To be honest, a cut 20p is really only going to be worth about £7 max on eBay... -
Help with a grading a 1787 sixpence please
CartwheelTwopence replied to proofreader's topic in Beginners area
I would agree with the gVF. The reverse looks very nice. Good find, but I hope you didn't pay near the UNC price! -
Readers Digest Token. One of the worst of eBay's offerings I've seen in ages. Very, very rare: even though they made millions o them and handed them out for free. My favorite part is in the description where it says: "Only a few made"!

Found one similar here, in far worse grade though: http://www.omnicoin.com/coin/1000968

Yes, I am also clueless about my two! I've put my 1910 on as fine, but cannot decide if that's right! I was just browsing over your collection, and I have to say your 1859 gothic florin looks superb! The reverse - although with some light scratches - does appear very nice for an EF grade!
-
Well done! I can imagine you could actually make a profit by selling it on eBay!
-
Have you recently posted this coin on Omni-Coin? I just saw it on recent additions, listed as EF. That's where I'd put it, too!
-
That is of course, as the Kew Gardens had a 210,000 mintage and goes for £30 or so in UNC. Am I right in thinking the Edinburgh £1 was 100,000?
-
I think the Edinburgh £1 is quite rare. Should be one to look out for! I think £20+ in UNC in a few years time.
-
I bought it in a lot from a boot sale. Big bag with 100's. £8 if I remember correctly, this is a few years ago. Bits of silver were in there, 2 proof sets, nothing too valuable... then that. I bet it would have been worth a good £60 or so? Shame.
-
BTW, I thought that it was a bit too good... Looking online I could not find one even close to that grade. Such a shame; I thought I had a real treasure there!
-
Oops! That's mine! Listed it today! Do you think it's fake then? I'll remove it instantly should it be...

Yeah, I've edited the threepence to aVF. Just to be conservative! Thanks. -
Omni Coin Advice Please!

Hi, I've started an Omni-Coin - please bear in mind the only coins on it are the ones I already have pictures of, so are mainly low grade ones! Could some of you have a look to see if I'm doing it right? And apologies if my grading is incorrect; I can change it if it's wrong. (I believe that you can click on the URL below the post). Thank you. -
Does look like in the right place it could fetch £150+. Very good find - keep hunting!

Thank you. One day I'll get it looking as good as yours! Watch this space... Oh, and by the way, I really like your copy of Edward III, as authenticated by the British Museum! -
1899 1 double guernesey
CartwheelTwopence replied to Jordan0693's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
To be honest, I don't really understand it myself! It could be to pass of as say a sixpence, or just to make it look nicer for a collector who realizes it isn't worth very much? -

I have some farthings that are the same, one in gold too. A bit of a shame, as often there are collectible coins underneath! -
Silver Threepence
CartwheelTwopence replied to Paulus's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I agree with you. If they were the most popular, they would be far more expensive than they are. -

Latest Spink Auction- Pennies
CartwheelTwopence replied to Colin88's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
It came about when the Royal Mint were trialling the Elizabeth II reverse, as they used the George VI reverse, which was toothed. They produced a very small number before making the design fit as beaded for both obverse and reverse.
