  1. on the subject of proofs . Would it be reasonable to assume on a standard proof coin the field would be mirror-like as in I should be able to see the reflection of my finger if i put it close to the coin but not touching it? If that is true with all proof coins (not including special coated proofs or matt proofs) why is this 1970 two shilling so un prooflike?. Even the strike doesn't bear any resemblance to a proof quality coin. If it isn't a proof coin what is it? error of some kind? struck on a standard 1967 blank? intrested in your comments as always. thanks
  2. He says it's real. I said I thought it was nanny Mcphee
  3. What the hell is this? I have never seen anything like it . One of the guys on FB has it. Must be a jeckyl?
  4. That's a £2 copper-nickel standard strike . All the Silver Proof ones I have seen are frosted. unless he put the wrong picture up. Seems a little high in rating to be pulling daft strokes like that.
  5. Long shot but factoring in different photography methods . LCA picture(left image) is bound to be enhanced to show the coin at its best. Where as the other coin is just a bulk standard stock picture. Sandblasted proof on the left and what looks like similar coin on the right. Are they both sandblasted? I know there are only a few examples in existence but if the second coin isn't sandblasted why does it look that way. There is no lustre or mirror finish. I cannot see any discernible difference in strike quality what do you think guys?
  6. Don't forget if he is a premium seller all neg feedbacks are removed. He is on a win win with scambay
  7. yes I have same dilemma with 1837 EF BRRITANNIAR Sixpence. I don't really want to be giving 25% of it to a bloody auction house lol and my 1864 dot half penny. Coz I know i'll end up disappointed. I have seen 1 sold on LCA and sold 1 myself but this is by far the best example to date making 3 known and probably more in collections somewhere but they are very rare. it isn't an immediate concern just something down the line a few years I am going to have to tackle. I will not consign to auctions esp LCA. Have done it twice and got rogered twice. I don't see the point cataloguing a collection with all the varieties mentioned if the auction house is blatantly going to omit it from the description.
  8. Another 1 been on the sauce i think Wonder what the P/L stands for ? Polished Loads? https://www.ebay.com/itm/1913-GREAT-BRITAIN-PENNY-P-L-XF-KM-810/192523337532
  9. how much is the 1937 proof missing waves worth? have any appeared at auction yet?
  10. 1817 Half crown D/T in DEI and I think it's Inverted 1 /1
  11. No probs. I have same thing with the 1937 pennies
  12. are they that scarce? I have many 1913 pennies never bothered with them tbh
  13. Yes I went goggled eyed on the 1901 I was seeing all sorts of things thought safer in bed lol
  14. Reverse A P to tooth first leg of N in one to Gap F174 I believe sir
  15. Sorry sellers pics. Do you think this is possibly a proof 1950 sixpence or just a nice strike currency 1950? It is very shap and esp the rev monogram double struck in the manor a proof would be. And normally these sixpences George's hair isn't the greatest feature of the coin but this seems incredibly detailed for just a normal strike. What you think guys? thanks
  16. I learned something as well
  17. obverse 13 reverse K*. Obverse 13 B of britt is away from the head and 14 it is nearly touching the back of the head.
  18. Could be a planchet flaw that damage goes right back to the right hand tip of the letter L and right across to the first string of the harp.?
  19. I haven't decided yet. Most things I have seen including acetone still leave marks on the coin. I am still awaiting delivery so i'll let you know what I decide . I don't think the blob in the middle is anything serious carbon at worse but looks like dirt but till i get me grubbies on it I am going to mull it over. Might not be such a drastic problem as brass is a tougher metal than copper was thinking of bicarb and a squeeze of lemon juice and cotton bud it for a few seconds and clean it off with distilled water.
  20. Bearing in mind nobody is beyond being caught out by coins such are the quality of modern day forgeries. I have a few concerns that may just be photographic discrepancies but here goes. Notice the stops they are all perfectly circular something I don't think I have seen on older coins. The hair curl at the top the teardrop curl itself is much smaller inside . The hair behind the head is much closer to the R and I just don't like the hair it looks lifeless. As I said it could just be photographic anomalies but Something don't sit right with me.
  21. Age is just a state of mind. Though the limbs have aged I feel exactly the same as I did they day I left school. Well perhaps a little wiser and a lot less patient lols
