Is this post mint damage?
zookeeperz replied to Sword's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Could be a planchet flaw that damage goes right back to the right hand tip of the letter L and right across to the first string of the harp.? -
I haven't decided yet. Most things I have seen including acetone still leave marks on the coin. I am still awaiting delivery so i'll let you know what I decide . I don't think the blob in the middle is anything serious carbon at worse but looks like dirt but till i get me grubbies on it I am going to mull it over. Might not be such a drastic problem as brass is a tougher metal than copper was thinking of bicarb and a squeeze of lemon juice and cotton bud it for a few seconds and clean it off with distilled water.

Bearing in mind nobody is beyond being caught out by coins such are the quality of modern day forgeries. I have a few concerns that may just be photographic discrepancies but here goes. Notice the stops they are all perfectly circular something I don't think I have seen on older coins. The hair curl at the top the teardrop curl itself is much smaller inside . The hair behind the head is much closer to the R and I just don't like the hair it looks lifeless. As I said it could just be photographic anomalies but Something don't sit right with me.

I have fond memories of magaluf 1984 Island theme tune at the time Club Tropicana by Wham . Just so fitting. Probably the best 14 days of my life So I am told. I can't say I remember much of it. But what naughties I do remember makes me grin like a cheshire cat. -

Andy Williams God rest his soul . Always thought of him as a pretend crooner rather than a headliner.? -
It's such a sharp strike Victoria is in shock and has somehow contracted alopecia . And half the flag is missing . I find it funny that they can recognise an unknown variety but cannot even identify already known ones.

Penny Acquisition of the week
zookeeperz replied to Paulus's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Thanks Same coin. I saw by reading the link addy . Thing is 1920-21 specifically to find them without any streaks or strike weakness is a difficult task. And to get 1 without both they are as rare as hens teeth. I only stumbled on the site yesterday so I still have to browse all the coins. Nice site -

Penny Acquisition of the week
zookeeperz replied to Paulus's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
This is by what I have seen one of the best 1921 Penny struck. I looked at the LCA and the finest graded by them at 85 pales into insignificance against this Coin. I would imagine this was one of the first coins to be struck. Fantastic strike. I have never seen George with so much hair. Almost a teen-wolf look and not a hint of streakiness. reverse complete strike just gorgeous. It will go in the safe place for sure Richard -

I sometimes wonder why I buy books. I must remember the premise is to read them lol. Fumbling through David's book looking at the Pennies of 1966 and the minor varieties. Specifically the one akin to the 1946 dot/die flaw penny. 1966 Finger /die flaw @ around the 9th plume from the front so anti-clockwise. Is this it?

its up there above this section the last pic is my novelty mouse in the sea pic. same coin though

Lols catwiki just reported my Trust-Pilot review as breaching Policy "Using offensive and defamatory language " I totally disagree I never swore once Truth hurts !! Bunch of crooks. you should read the stories. People still waiting for over a year to be paid .Sellers bidding on their own items to bump the price up. Just not on and shouldn't be allowed to get away with it. I agree I may have used colourful descriptions to put over my point in the clearest terms but I don't see as I broke any rules. They did ,have done, and still do everything I said all I did was call them out and now they are QQ and reporting when they have no valid response to give. They should consider themselves fortunate I have not used their services and it gone wrong they would have something to QQ about then .

Looks like I have the finger penny after all. That is the same as mine in the pics above Although why I was imagining some gigantic finger like your country needs you poking out I'll never know lols

and then i did this and totally threw myself a curveball. I actually think this way up looks more plausible. What do you think? -
I know the Aussies love their micro varieties and errors / misstrikes and such almost or perhaps more than the yanks. So if there are any Ozzie Gurus in the house how much do these coins go for. 2000 20 cents Doubled obverse legend and profile. Any help would be gladly received . thanks Richard

Is it Greek or Celtic or something completely different??
zookeeperz replied to bhx7's topic in Ancient Coins
I thought as the designs were really basic looking they looked more of a representative of something rather than an artistic design Like the medusa looking thing with top part for head the middle section for the body with an arm either side and a long tail like a half human / half sea serpent (siren) . The reverse does look like a front facing Bull sitting on its haunches . Greeks did get in to mythology creatures Perhaps it's a very early type. I do have a vivid imagination I even have a mouse on my 1967 penny . Ok I think I was closer than I gave myself credit for, The Medusa looking effigy is definitely some kind of sea serpent perhaps an irish harpie as if you look to the left the white area I believe is the sea and there is a what looks like a fish or a dolphin head just above the surface. Also the space adjacent to the left of the head has a tick which as you know always depicts a flying bird in the distance, The other effigy I am pretty sure is a dancing bear as there was more detail on the coin when I reversed negged the picture. the rest of the ear and the side profile of the nose and mouth. -
I am seriously toying with the idea of getting one. Just which to get really. I normally look at the comparison sites and see what gives the best overall performance for the cost
