I have looked again at this 1873 half penny and I am now convinced it is not reverse G and is the rarer type reverse I Incuse hemline and folds over the shield On this pic for identification purpose you can see the incuse lines and the cross lines are crude and misaligned. What do you say guru's?

That's a good idea actually might help me shift those obligatory tubes of 1967 pennies

1850 shilling discovered in a tin from my youth
zookeeperz replied to georgie's topic in TPG Discussions
I just thought it could forewarn those who have collections with them in to check them. Who knows how many of these have been passed off as real? Hopefully none. But yeah I see your point whilst 1 guy made £7000 selling fake kew's and continues to sell I guess it's just wishful thinking sadly -

zookeeperz replied to georgie's topic in TPG Discussions
yes defo a fake. I posted this on Ebays worse when I first saw them as I was gobsmacked how good they were. If we hadn't seen them all together in one sale I think he had 6 coins originally Many of those would of gone to unsuspecting buyers. At least we know now the characteristics of the fake coins. the thing that is of great concern the guy who posted about his 1850 shilling posted a year ago so how many are in collections? I think some announcement by an authority like the press is in order considering the value of this particular date? -

I wonder if he sold it way back then. More's the point I wonder who got mugged off with it lol -
Strange though all these change checker sites and the multitude of so called experts on rare decimal coinage don't mention it. Perhaps I should alert the daily mail lols

1947 1/2 Anna (b) rarity
zookeeperz replied to zookeeperz's topic in Enquiries about Non British coins
That is only the 3rd one I have seen . I think these coins must of been stopped soon after minting as the lahore mint had 59 million coins minted but there so far has been no way to distinguish between calcutta and lahore issues as both practiced the trial marks locating one behind the head and one on the reverse but not always on the reverse. I think they started to run the 1947 and then cancelled them due to sufficient coins from 1946 and the remainder of the mintage were 1947 calcutta issues. Just an idea ? -
Good day folks. Have a bit of a quandary . I have a 1947 1/2 Anna but struck from the Bombay mint as opposed to Calcutta. They were also struck @ the lahore mint but nobody can identify them as during this period both Bombay and Calcutta coins had test marks added to them. Usually 1 behind the head of the king and 1 on the reverse abone the first N of ANNA but not strictly designated to a set area and some had more than 1 each side. The diagonal short strokes either side of the date are the markers for Calcutta and Bombay . Calcutta mint coins just have the dash/stroke line whereas the Bombay mint has a stop/dot half way down the stroke so it looks like a kind of dash-dot-dash effect. I asked some authoritarians on British-India coins and asked why the 1947 Bombay mint carried such a high book value $500 in MS -60 in fact it's valued higher than the proof-likes. But here is the thing NGC has graded 19 1947 1/2 Anna coins all Calcutta mint.PCGS hasn't graded any and the only 1947(B) they graded was a prooflike restrike and I am guessing that is where they a generating a hypothetical value from. So no coins have sold through auctions and you can search all over the internet and never find one. Only footnotes about variety types. But there is no explanation for a coin with no actual mintage figure and quote " The characteristics of the 1947 Bombay mint haven't been determined but are thought to resemble the 1946 issue" un-quote. So how rare are these coins? Anyone care to chime in . Every door I open slams shut and is frustrating to say the least. Here is my Nemesis I think I need to slab this one purely on the grounds of rarity.?

And what about the 1999 £2 technology and industry not the rugby one. Rarest of all the £2 coins in UNC and almost unheard of in BU as no BU sets or proof sets were made in that year so all there is are coins from circulation and despite 39 million minted I guess nobody thought of keeping them Book suggests £40 unc £100 BU

more FAKES
zookeeperz replied to numismatist's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I mean I know it's a fake but how do you know the RM destroyed it? He could of cut it in half with a pair of tin snips. I dare say it's fine but just as a devil's advocate question. But wow and so cheap as well just as a forgery. Nice find -
Damn these opinionated vegetables!!!

Is that a healthy eating advert? -
Just a stunning coin. I wonder if it's a specimen strike?. I must admit I have never seen one like this before

I did notice that the legend on the reverse is misaligned in that HALF is further from the border than the letters in PENNY and I might be way off base but in my memory it rang a bell that it was a identifying factor of a rare variety type perhaps Draycott C# ? . Unfortunately it is only mentioned as a footnote in freeman's appendix list in the new book. As I said in the description there are somethings that look different to the images in the book the eye is closer to the bridge than any of the versions it should be and the nose itself is pixie like and has a narrow sharp pointy look to it. Also the ribbon tie on the right is half the width of the tie on the left where it joins the knot. The exergue line curves up at the left end like it does on the rev D penny. Neither G or I have this feature they are both straight. But as we have said time and time again a picture is worth a thousand words only if you have the item from the picture in your hand
-
I have no idea the label as always only gives the Spink reference number. I bought it from auction thinking it might be different to the book. As I couldn't make out what one it was. I'll get a better picture I hope when it arrives. Picked this up as well but I doubt you can date it lol it's a farthing not seen a George IV before

Sinking of the Golden Hind ?

Did you not see the ship to the right as if shadowing it from afar ? -
OMG. I would personally request ebay strike the comment from the list and blacklist the buyer from ever buying again. I would of done exactly that if it were me. I had exactly the same on another site. The seller lost the coin and had to give me a refund and gave me 0% rating lmao. To this day it hasn't been removed and all I got was a warning for using foul language. I'll let you use your imagination what I said to johnny foreigner

Just bought a 1000 x 41mm flips from this place but its worth peace of mind. only reason they are in the albums is they are supposed to be sold on . I just seem to hoard more than I shift lol. they become friends. I need to be more offensive with my selling but all the arseholes and scammers has made it very difficult to pitch decent coins and get a valid return on them. I'll not go down the start @ 99p route everytime I do it I lose out. True collectors omitted of course they know what they want and know the price is either good or bad. but it's mostly dealers looking to catch a good deal. I have a rare canadian cent and yes the coin has graffiti on like a love token inscription " For Victoria in Canada god bless you" but its very finely etched and kind of endearing. Without the graffiti it would easily fetch £500-£1000 . I got loads of emails saying the coin is basically worthless but i'll give you £100 and making it sound like they are doing me a favour. Jesus i could pop it off to PCGS and get UNC details grade and it would still fly out. Had a few coins like that . Rare is rare and it fills that damn gap lol.
